Fluid Systems Standards (FSS) group, Engineer III

Duties Performed:

Lead FSS group (Certification group) evaluation and validation testing effort required by FAA regarding performance and ability verification of existing/legacy Boeing clamps that were proposed to secure hose and tube installations on 787 A/C. Worked with FSS team members to develop and evaluate concepts for newly designed high-pressure and return-pressure weld-end reconnectable fittings (used for the 787 A/C hydraulic system tube ends, supporting requirements to assist with weight savings efforts). Assisted with team members for routing of hydraulic tubing and clamping throughout body and wings of 787 A/C. Prepared group project developmental schedules for various Boeing LCPT (life cycle performance team), certification groups and vendor personnel to manufacture and qualify those new parts. Travel involved to different Boeing testing facilities in Puget Sound area as well as out-of-state and international business trips. Much industry and Boeing laboratory test time was utilized for testing efforts; evaluation and conformed. Much trouble-shooting, problem solving and root-cause analysis performed. FMEA & MTBF analysis performed on various systems components. Lightning strike testing involved with all fittings and tube end types. High-pressure hydraulic hose development support. Boss-fitting development and hydraulic pump and various actuators support (all manner of life-cycle performance testing).

Much cross-function team activity. FSS group representative to different suppliers, Boeing manufacturing lines (parts-to-assemblies and hydraulic systems parts and assemblies). Worked closely with planning, QC, purchasing and supplier representatives to address delivery and fault issues. d.Passenger Oxygen Systems (O2 Generator and Bottle) Major -to- simple existing system modifications and addition of new PSU dispensing boxes or gaseous bottle systems and related line routing per ship’s requirement. Installed therapeutic, first aid and operating room rated oxygen systems. New and existing service panel installation and modifications.

e.Crew Oxygen Systems – Major -to- simple existing system modifications from supply to flight deck.

f.Cabin Pressurization, Venting and Supplemental Heating Systems – Major -to- simple existing system modifications and addition of new duct and plenum routing per ship’s requirement. Also installed supplemental heating systems in select rooms. Provided additional galley venting for certain new appliances. Designed ventilation micro/local systems for A/C rated and COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) equipment. Provided ventilation above and below cabin level, for new installs of electrical and avionics components and new equipment/upgrades. Installed packaged pieces of aircraft humidification systems.

g.Galley Component Installs and Venting- Major-to-simple installations and modifications for new or to existing galley areas. Cooling, venting and smoke detection designs for all aspects of air-thru, air-over, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, etc.

h.Smoke Detection and Fire Suppression Systems – Major -to- simple existing system modifications and addition of new zones for smoke detection needs in the aircraft cabin and lower lobes. Used different style of flame arrestor grills for enclosed cabinet arrangements of COTS components. Designed flame arrestor grills that were on-site tested by FAA representatives for use on A/C.

Team work readily shared to complete all previous mentioned installations. Work conditions included formal atmosphere, work shop and hangar floor, aircraft visits and travel to customer and support locations, when necessary.

Coordinated with planning personnel, configuration management, FAA, in-house certification groups and other concerned disciplines for schedule development and information exchanges.

Ground and Flight Test Procedures were written and Flight Test activity conducted in validation requirement support of all previous mentioned installations.
