PERSONAL SUMMARY
Worked in the IT industry since leaving University in the UK, starting out in the banking/finance industry within City of London. Initially worked in the Wintel server support area, but now specialise in email support/migration. Have been working with all the Microsoft email products since MsMail 3.2, and through to Exchange 2013 and Office 365. Moved to New Zealand in 2002. Continued to work in the IT industry – with contracts for different IT vendors in the New Zealand region, in the Wintel Messaging space, but moving into email migration projects and Exchange Architecture, taking on more responsibility for each subsequent project, resulting in a Technical Lead role for the successful email migrations (for HP Enterprise Services) for New Zealand Police off Lotus Notes onto Microsoft Exchange, Telecom NZ, and also for Bank of Queensland (amongst many others, including a USA project). All these roles included the Architecture/Design of the target Exchange 2007/2010 platforms. I also do adhoc consulting for Quest Professional Services in Australia/NZ, as well as working with Binary Tree in this region. My experience in numerous enterprise messaging projects has allowed me to adopt a successful approach to all my work that involves a blend of technical knowledge, problem solving, inter-personal skills, and an ability to see the “big picture”. Within the messaging arena, my niche skill is in email migrations, having been involved in multiple email migration projects, usually as Technical Lead.

EMAILMIGRATIONS.COM [2014-now] – Owner & Lead Consultant: Global messaging consulting business, owned and run by myself. Working on multiple messaging projects for clients in different countries. Typical projects are email migrations off legacy Exchange, GroupWise, or Domino – to Office 365 or on-premise Exchange. I act as Lead Technical Consultant for all projects, with responsibility for Strategy, Design, and Implementation. DIMENSION DATA [July 2016 – Dec 2016] – Technical Delivery Lead: Migration Technical Lead for multiple Sydney based email migration projects. Federal Courts of Australia, Toyota Finance, NBN Australia. Lotus Notes migrations, and Exchange/O365 migrations. DELL SOFTWARE [2010 – now] – Email Migration Consultant: Part time consultant for Quest Software on email migrations involving GroupWise/Lotus Notes to Exchange, using the Quest Software migration products – Quest Notes Migrator, Quest Notes Coexistence Manager, Quest GroupWise Migrator, Quest GroupWise Coexistence Manager. Numerous lead consulting engagements at customer sites throughout Australia/NZ. DIMENSION DATA [Feb 2015 – July 2015] – Technical Delivery Lead: Migration Technical Lead for an Exchange Migration Project for IAG/Lumley Insurance merger. Complex intra-Forest Exchange migration involving multiple AD Forests.
HP ENTERPRISE SERVICES [2013 – Jan 2015] – Messaging Solutions Architect: A member of the Australian Messaging Team covering the APJ region, working on a wide range of messaging solutions across multiple email platforms, and customers.
DIMENSION DATA [Oct 2012 –2013] – Migration Lead: Domino to Office 365 migration (3,000 seats) for large NZ food retailer. Using Quest toolset for migration and extended co-existence (address book, free busy, smtp). Liaison with local IT team, and Microsoft for this project. Design, planning, build and configuration of migration & coexistence infrastructure.
Messaging Architect: Onsite at Health Alliance responsible for producing the Exchange High Level Solution Design for the merger of the four Northern Region District Health Boards onto a central Exchange 2010 platform – for 40,000 mailboxes. Working with key technical resources, and to a tight timeframe. KIWIRAIL NZ [Sept 2011 – Nov 2012] – Operations Role: managing the internal Exchange 2007 CCR platform for 4,000 mailboxes. Service improvement, capacity management, and team mentoring. SPF USA [Nov 2011 – Feb 2012] – Messaging Design Architect: Remote role as Lead Architect on a major GroupWise to Exchange 2010 email migration project for Georgia State University Hospital (14,000 seats). Worked with small team of technical engineers who belonged to SPF (US consulting firm). GroupWise Postoffice discovery phase. Setup of co-existence between GroupWise and Exchange. Produced the Exchange 2010 Design (DAG) and Migration Strategy & Plan. Acted as single point of contact for all Technical Issues to ensure the project remained on track and on budget. Project was a success, and references available. Required regular interaction with client, Microsoft, Quest, and 3rd Party consultants.
HP ENTERPRISE SERVICES (formerly EDS) NZ [Nov 2004 – Aug 2011] – Various Roles: Technical Lead - New Zealand Police Email Migration: Migration of 14,000 seats from Lotus Notes to Exchange 2007. Responsible for Microsoft Exchange 2007 Architecture\Design\Implementation\Migration using Quest Migration software. Exchange 2007 technologies covering multiple high-availability CCR\SCR clusters. Involved with the initial RFP process, covering bid response, presentations, Statement of Work. Overall technical responsibility throughout the project (largely on-site at NZ Police, Wellington) and seeing the project through to successful completion, handing over to NZ Police Support Team. Messaging Consultant – Bank of Queensland Email Migration: Bank of Queensland (BoQ) Lotus Notes to Exchange 2010 Email Migration Project (2,000 seats). Responsible for overall Migration Strategy, representing HP in customer meetings, and helping resolve complex technical issues. Visits to HP Brisbane office combined with remote work from Auckland, leading the Technical work streams. Messaging Consultant – Telecom Email Migration: Exchange 2007 Design Lead for Telecom New Zealand migration (12,000 seats) off Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. Messaging Consultant - Fonterra Email Migration: Working on-site at EDS Auckland, as part of a Messaging Team responsible for migrating Fonterra off Exchange 2000/Novell Groupwise/Lotus Notes onto Microsoft Exchange 2003. 15,000 users. Responsible for producing detailed design documentation, server builds, implementation plans, migration plans, liasing with other teams, support during migrations. Design and build of complex, resilient, stable, international Exchange 2003 infrastructure on IBM hardware, utilising Microsoft Clustering technologies. Detailed migration planning, customer liaison, testing, post-migration support and troubleshooting.
Messaging Consultant – LINZ Email Migration: Working on site at LINZ (New Zealand Government Dept), leading a project to migrate 900 users off GroupWise 6.5 onto Exchange 2003/2007 platform. Complex project, involving Detailed Design, Implementation Plans, Migration Plans, Operational Documents. Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 installation and configuration. Exchange 2007 Powershell scripting was leveraged to optimise operation changes required during the migration. Quest migration software was used alongside standard Microsoft Exchange Connector technologies to achieve the migration. Represented EDS on customer site during project, attending key project meetings, and solving complex technical issues.
