Project: Energy Information Administration (EIA) Transformation Survey Modernization

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) collects survey responses from energy companies across the United States. Data needs submitted through SalesForce (Web Form) or upload PDF file. FTP Attachment application is used to move the PDF files from SalesForce portal to Informatica server. Used Informatica Data Transformation (DT) Studio to parse the PDF data and converts them to XML files and then into relevant tables in database. I used Informatica Metadata Manager to create custom models and resources, classes and attributes. Set rules in Informatica Metadata Manager to identify the QA/QC errors in the data submitted by respondent. This information is captured in database. Developed Human Task objects to populate Exceptions Tasks in Informatica Analyst Tool. Deployed the Applications created/updated in IDQ to the Data Integration Service (DIS).

Created PowerShell scripts to run to website, pull the data and create XML files. I created partners, accounts, profiles, events and other objects in B2B Data Exchange using JMS broker to send and receive data from DX to Power Center. I created JMS sources for DX integration in PowerCenter. I developed mappings, sessions, workflows to process XML files using Unstructured Data Transformation and populate tables in the database.

Project: Customs and Border Protection.

As an Informatica/ETL Architect created ETL infrastructure for a new data warehouse. Data was extracted from difference sources, loaded into target database. As an ETL developer I designed and created complex mappings/sessions/workflows to move data from source to reporting data warehouse for CARGO, TSDB, PASSENGER and CERTS. I using Unconnected Lookup, Sorter, Aggregator, newly changed dynamic Lookup and Router transformations for populating target table in efficient manner. I created Mapplet and used them in different Mappings. I am using various components like Parameter files, Variables and Dynamic Cache for performance tuning of the Informatica mappings. I was involved in creating and modifying the Scheduling Jobs. I designed and implemented performance improvement changes to nightly ETL processes using Informatica and Oracle databases. I changed architecture and mappings as needed to improve performance, business analysis and data model design for new tables related to ETL. I review data loaded into the data warehouse for accuracy, analyses and design throughout the data warehouse implementation.

I was responsible for developing logical and physical data models for Customs and Border Protection project (IOFS environment). I was responsible for modifying the model to meet specific customer requirements: develop data models (using Erwin) for new repositories, enhance existing repositories, and keep all documentation (technical metadata, data models, and processes). I was involved in the design, development and building data warehouse. I replicated existing production tables from Operational Data Store database into data warehouse using Oracle Replication Server. Data was denormalized and optimized for reporting using function strings and stored procedures. Additional tasks included the creation of schema objects (dimension and fact tables, materialized views, indexes, packages, triggers, etc.) in the data warehouse environment, the expansion of a single dimensional data model (star schema) into multiple star schemas, source to target mapping, storage capacity planning and support. Tested application and implemented into production. I monitored the system performance and availability of data warehouse environment with Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g. I worked with my colleagues to create universes in Business Objects XI R2, retrieve, and expose the data to business users through semantic layer universes.

Replace the current, large Sybase database, with an Oracle database, based on the governments standard Transportation and Logistics Data Model (TLDM) and NGDB logical data model. As part of the GTN21 proposal activities, I developed Data Mapping for Passenger and Cargo Subject Areas to provide guidance for data migration from existing GNT-Build5 data structure and FEED(s) to future logical database architecture (NGDB).

I have analyzed TLDM, NGDB, and GTN-Build5 data models, discovered global model characteristics, and identified critical entities and data attributes.

I have made some observations in regards to the complexity of data model, entities and relationships, business rule enforcement, DoD metadata compliance, data modeling approach (GTN-Build5 – transport-leg, NGDB – fixed-point), naming conventions, data retrieval performance (long character-type field comparison), query limitations (missing data, null values), redundant data.

Census 2000 Data Capture System (DCS-2000). Telesis consulting to Lockheed Martin Mission Systems, Bowie, MD. I designed Data Mart for data storage. Implemented/administered a distributed Data Mart that assured the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of Data Capture operations (Sorting, Scanning, OCR, OMR, and Keying), handling 120 million Census forms at four US capture centers. I implemented database backup procedures, utilizing Legato technology to the StorageTek tape library system. Implemented second pass Census database changes. I created post-capture central database.
