The CPI measures the change in prices of goods and services typically purchased by urban American consumers. It is calculated and published each month by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Food, transportation, apparel, medical care, and housing are several of the major components of the CPI. The data used to calculate the CPI each month is collected in two separate surveys: Commodities and Services (C&S) and Housing, These two categories of initiation and pricing are further broken down into screening/initiation (SI), initiation completion (NI), long pricing (LP), and short pricing (SP). The type of interview you are performing determines which screens you encounter in the Collection Instrument (CI).
