Accomplishments: Development and institution of standardized cloud governance process, procedures and architectural standards. This enables a standardized process to migrate applications and application ecosystems to cloud engagements. Part of this process standardized the “target” cloud configuration for expedited migration as well as simplified or comprehensive monitoring and support.

Developed technique to migrate/replicate individual disk drive to multi-petabyte data sets to Amazon S3 or Glacier storage without additional WAN infrastructure. Developed vehicle mounted blade servers and storage systems specifically for cloud and virtualization, with automated application ecosystem deployment, in field deployments. Original patentable work done in the areas of highly dense computing, self-deploying micro cloud, computer airborne contamination, packaging materials and extreme heat mitigation. Accomplishments: Research, design and production of custom systems for high temperature environments cooled via immersed liquid cooling, compute in confined and rugged space, high demand computing mobile platforms, and high dust and high temperature environments, self-deploying cloud in a box for field deployed virtualized compute.

Criterion Systems LLC, 2008–2010 Director/Architect-High Performance Computer Engineering

Developed server and storage solutions for high performance computing (cluster, cloud, virtualization) and storage. Systems also developed for Dept. of Justice (mobile forensic analysis), U.S. Air Force (ISR rugged air borne), and the Intelligence Community (mobile rugged) as well as commercial applications (large scale cloud, virtualization and clusters). Original work done in large scale airborne computing using grid systems. Subject matter expert for engineering issues on RFP responses.

Accomplishments: Custom compute design and implementation for highly specialized environments, (high temp, desert, high dust, rugged transport). Compute packages for supercomputing aboard aircraft, mobile compute for Special Forces, Intelligence, and law enforcement. High rate data evidence capture systems for law enforcement. Specialized compute engine for computer forensics in the field. Forward deployable compute engine for ingestion, translation and analysis of captured documents. Containerized field deployable fully contained data center.

Germane Systems LLC, 2005 - 2008 Director/Senior Engineer Germane Integration Group.

Designed and manufactured custom, patentable computer and storage systems using COTS components for DoD, Intelligence and law enforcement. Team lead for RFP response.

Accomplishments: Custom systems for naval deployment. These systems require a high degree of shock and temperature resiliency in confined spaces. Original work on small form factor, high density, field deployable compute and storage. Designed and built liquid cooled fully contained five blade server in a 3’ sq package. This system set a record at the Microsoft customer lab for number of simultaneous high transaction Exchange users on a single system.

Indus Corporation, 2003 – 2005, Manager Corporate Information Technology,

Design and management of Corporate data center, network infrastructure and staff, as well as

subject matter expert for computing, storage and infrastructure contracts. Senior engineering architect.

Accomplishments: Designed, built, migrated to a new building and configured a new data center for corporate headquarters. Desktop environment transition and consolidation.

Smartronix, Inc., 2001 – 2003, Senior Project Engineer / Senior Design Architect

Project Manager and Senior Technical Lead for DoD projects, primarily Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI). In this capacity I developed Professional services line of business concentrating in storage, data management and disaster recovery engagements. We also developed NAS and ISCSI subsystem and encrypted remote data replication strategy as well as a fiber optic test instrument used to certify NMCI installations. Developed portable fiber optic certification equipment. Subject matter expert for RFPs.

Accomplishments: Build data centers all over the US. Approximately one every three weeks. Designed and build a fiber test instrument adopted system wide.

NTT America (formally Verio, Inc.), 2000 – 2001 Director WEB Hosting,

Built and managed WEB hosting and managed services operations in multiple data centers in the eastern region. Management of following departments: Networking, Operations, Purchasing, Engineering, and Product development. Staff – ten direct reports with 148 individuals. Budgetary responsibility in excess of $15 million.

Accomplishments: Built and staffed several data centers on the east coast. The primary data center was 800,000 square foot.

Elliptus Technologies Inc., 1998–2000 Manager Data Center Operations/Senior Design Architect

Elliptus Technologies, an e-commerce service provider to the insurance industry. As a founding Member of this enterprise, Built data centers in Richmond, Dallas, and Glendale California, and one call center in Richmond. Budget responsibility for $2.8 million.

Accomplishments: Design, built and operated three data centers.
