Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the position of Technical Writer/Documentation Specialist. I currently reside in the southwest

desert – Phoenix, Arizona. I am a native east-coaster and after six years of trying to enjoy the “dry heat,” I’m

ready to head to a more compatible, colorful environment. If, at the end of your hiring process, you decide I am

the right fit for Pinpoint Resource Group, I would gladly relocate.

I have a variety of experiences in editing, writing, and proofreading that has made attention to detail practically

second nature. I am currently a Technical Editor for an environmental consulting company and have been here for

almost two years. In this position I find errors as large as sentence structure and as small as the spacing between

words. During my university studies, I was a writing tutor, and an intern for Superstition Review (a literary

magazine). I have also been working as an Adjunct Teaching Assistant for Ashford University for two years, for

which I edit and grade up to sixty essays per week.

I also have a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office; I am highly proficient in Microsoft Word and I work with Excel

and Outlook on a daily basis. I am proficient in both Windows and Mac operating systems, as well as Adobe

Acrobat and many of the Creative Suite programs (I have worked extensively in Photoshop and have experience

with Illustrator and InDesign). Having a computer in my household from a young age has made me a very

efficient word processor, typing at over 80 words per minute with high accuracy. On top of this training, I am also

well-versed in much of the current social media.

I believe my greatest professional asset is that I’m a compulsive organizer who truly enjoys keeping track of

things. I have a natural flair for organization, and can easily keep track of numerous projects at once. I am an

avid list maker and often have multiple, ever-changing to-do lists, even in my personal life. I believe I would thrive

best (and contribute the most) in a position in which I can multi-task a wide array of projects and assist people in

keeping their professional endeavors on track. My exceptional organizational abilities are mutually exclusive from

my multi-tasking skills. These abilities were best utilized in my past position at Tempe Camera Photo Lab – I

multi-tasked dozens of complex work orders daily; I needed to know the answers to both customer and technician

inquiries about the details and statuses of jobs.

My English studies have taught me to be an excellent and clear communicator, both written and verbally. My

courses in Rhetoric have taught me how to use language advantageously as well as how to organize thoughts

and facts in order to express myself more accurately. My years in customer service have honed my

communication abilities; those years taught me the importance of tone, attitude, and energy level while

communicating with customers and co-workers, alike. On an internal basis, I've worked with different levels of

management, from overseeing a Wal-Mart photo lab to leading the customer service team at Tempe Camera. I'm

familiar with the techniques of friendly guidance of employees as well as communicating direction from higher up

management. Maintaining a positive and supportive work environment is one of my top priorities as an employee

and co-worker.

I am confident that I would be a beneficial addition to any team; I am a highly motivated and loyal individual who

values the integrity of hard work and who maintains a strong sense of urgency. I thrive most in a company when

it’s clear that I am helping. If my current position is stagnant, I actively search for areas that need improved or for

co-workers who need assistance. I am happiest with my job when my contribution is apparent, whether it’s trivial

or substantial; I work best when I know I am helping the functionality of my team and success of the company.

If my current salary of $17 per hour could be met or increased, I would be glad to commit myself, professionally,

to your company and its needs. I would love to find out more about the position you’re looking to fill and I

welcome the opportunity to tell you more about how my skills and ideas can aid your company.

Best,

Nicole Dunlap
