E D U C A T I O N
Bachelor of Applied Science – Metals & Materials Engineering Sept 2008 – May 2011
University of British Columbia, Vancouver BC
Course Highlights: Hydrometallurgy, Pyrometallurgy, Structures & Properties of Materials, Mechanical Behaviour of Materials, Microstructure Analysis, Non-destructive Evaluation, Corrosion.
Project Highlights
1. Metallurgical Dust Project
Functioned as team leader, supervising and coordinating with 4 team members on the design and construction of a prototype plant, designed to treat and filter harmful dust (containing arsenic, etc) which is produced during the smelting process. Analyzed the economic, environmental, safety factors that influence the treatment process. Developed independent reports, which were consolidated into one comprehensive document and submitted for evaluation.
2. Offshore Pipeline Project
Collaborated with 5 team members on the development and design of an anti-corrosion coating for offshore pipelines transferring natural gas to refinery plants. Administered mechanical and corrosion tests, using data to identify stress points affiliated with different types of metals. Spearheaded the design of the pipeline temperature and heat profile, using Excel spreadsheets. Independently performed environmental analysis on the possible effects caused by pipeline construction, taking into consideration environmental impact on flora, fauna large-scale ocean contamination.

Education (cont ‘d)
3. Intraocular Lens Project
Coordinated with 2 team members on materials selection for intraocular lenses. Researched several different materials extensively, comparing the biocompatibility of a variety of intraocular lenses and identifying possible consequences affiliated with each lens type (e.g. many lenses increase risk for eye disease). Strategized, developing a surface modification procedure to improve biocompatibility. Introduced an engineered coating (Haparin) which improved lens compatibility and reduced ocular irritation.
