Medical Technologist (Generalist and Blood Bank)
Duties included are receiving and logging in specimens in accordance with
hospital policy and procedures, as well as FDA and AABB. Applies training
received to accommodate for routine testing of specimens such as: ABO
compatibility testing, antibody detection, donor collection in processing
to include ABO compatibility and Anti-D screening requirements sufficient
for our facility. Other duties include performing quality control
(maintenance, calibration and validation) testing in accordance to
manufacturer and facility requirements on all instruments, refrigerators,
centrifuges, cell washers and freezers. Daily, weekly and monthly quality
control is also performed on all instrumentation within our blood bank
facility. Clerical duties assigned are answering multiple telephone lines.
Verification of testing results as interpreted and then provided via our
Laboratory Information System for access by Healthcare providers.
Establishes and maintains blood component inventory and Standard Operation
Procedural Manuals according to hospital policy. Performs surveys provided
by AABB and CAP in accordance with all hospital policies and AABB and CAP
requirements. Issues blood components, following proper protocol testing,
such as Fresh Frozen Plasma, pooled platelets, cryoprecipitate and packed
red blood cells. Helps with the validation of new equipment and procedures.
Writes and updates procedures per AABB and FDA requirements.
