click here : http://bit.ly/XdWK3k The total budget for Red Point Riot was $2,480, based on cost of shirts, Collegiate Climbing Series registration, swag bag magazines, and food.

Each participant paid $20 to register, $4 more than the $16 cost per climber.

Main expenses included t-shirts and food. Almost everything else included in the competition was donated through sponsorships.

Revenue came solely from the $20 registration fee. This covered all the costs with a 20% profit. Cost estimation The 7th annual Red Point Riot (RPR) was held on April 2nd, 2011 from 8am-7pm at the UNT Pohl Recreation Center. It was hosted by the UNT Outdoor Pursuits program. The actual competition lasted 8 hours, from 9am-1pm and 2-6pm and the award ceremony and raffle took about an hour at the end of the day.

Red Point Riot is a Collegiate Climbing Series (CCS) indoor rock climbing competition hosted by the UNT Outdoor Pursuits program. The purpose of the event is to promote CCS, Outdoor Pursuits and climbing in general. It is also a money-making opportunity for the department.

The main goal of RPR is to bring competitive climbers an opportunity to hone their skills and meet other climbers in a safe, indoor environment.

To meet this goal, the staff set challenging routes for all climbing levels, presented themselves in a professional, welcoming manner and fostered an inviting community on campus that day.

This year, RPR welcomed a record-breaking 155 registered climbers along with their coaches, fans and families. Most of the climbers were fairly experienced climbers, some of whom were members of collegiate climbing teams. Several members of the UNT climbing wall participated, but the majority of climbers came from various areas of the state. Red Point Riot Red Point Riot was marketed through the RecSports website.

Flyers that included a registration form were sent to state colleges and universities. Marketing Layout/Operations Preparation for RPR started in January with calls and emails to possible sponsors for food and swag. By February, the day-of coordinator started organizing marketing, operations layout, and staffing assignments. Most of the work took place the week of the event with route setting, putting together swag bags, organizing t-shirts, and finalizing plans for the day of the event.

On the day of the event, set-up started 2 hours prior to the start of climbing. The staff met to go over assignments, set up tables, prep the OPC for food and vendors, and clean up from the week of route setting.

Climbers started arriving around 8am to register and prepare for climbing. At 8:30am, the day-of coordinator led the climber's meeting and climbers were released at 9am to freely climb until 1pm. At 1:30pm, the second round of climbers were led in their meeting and began climbing freely from 2-6pm. At that time, score cards were collected and entered by six staff members into the computer. While awards were being calculated and printed, the raffle took place. Awards and closing comments finished around 7pm.

As climbers left the Rec Center, the staff picked up trash, put away rented gear, and helped the vendors collect their items to leave. This took about 30 minutes. Before leaving, the staff had a quick huddle to recognize their hard work during the event. Red Point Riot was evaluated with a simple survey that all climbers were asked to fill out. Most climbers turned in complete surveys with positive feedback.

Another great competition!

The best climbing comp in Texas.

The staff was great, as always!

By observing as a staff member, I saw positive reactions from climbers that were reiterated in the surveys. Evaluation Process

Conclusion

Because this was the seventh annual competition, most of the kinks were worked out already. The day-of operations and route setting worked very well. Those in charge of sponsorships got a very late start and could've been much more successful if they started the year before. Climbers also wanted online or over the phone registration options that are not currently possible through RecSports.

As a Rec major and special event management minor, my education is perfectly suited for planning an event such as this. Staffing was covered almost completely by part-time student climbing wall staff. The Graduate Assistant and Assistant Director of Outdoor Pursuits oversaw the staff as usual, but, as they say, the competition belongs to the staff. The physical running of the event was done solely by student staff.

There were 4 coordinators in charge of prep and operations.

Staff were chosen by the managers and director for coordinator positions and the day-of coordinator managed the staffing assignments for the remaining staff.

Staff were paid their typical wage of $7.50/hr both for event prep time and day-of event time. Student staff are limited to 40 hours/week, so they were required to take breaks from their work or delegate to other staff to not go over their limit.

All staff worked the entire day with breaks allowed whenever necessary. For the majority of the day, staff rotated at will for the main 13 judging positions. Staffing Be sure to watch
