EDUCATION

1996 Ph.D. (Chemistry), University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM.

1993 M.S. (Chemistry), University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM.

1986 B.S. (Chemistry), Catholic University, Lima, Peru.

1979 Laboratory Technician (Chemistry), Ernst Wilhelm Middendorf, Lima, Peru.

WORK EXPERIENCE

1998-present Staff. Scientist, Applied Chemistry Division, Alcoa Technical Center, Pennsylvania:Developed Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analytical methods for continuous emissions monitoring of pot

gases (CF4, C2F6, SO2, COS, CO2, CO) in worldwide Alcoa smelters to comply with corporate environmental goals to reduce greenhouse

gases emissions and optimize current efficiency for Aluminum production.

Implemented Tunable Diode Lasers instrumentation for continuous emissions monitoring of Hydrogen Fluoride in smelters.

Hands on experience in other analytical techniques like Diffuse Reflectance, Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR), and Reflectance

FTIR Spectroscopy, fiber-optics, process photometers and dispersive Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR) spectrometers, Mass Spectrometry,

X-ray Diffraction and Fluorescence instrument, Oxygen differential analyzers and Optical Anemometers.

Supervised and conducted X-ray Diffraction analysis for materials characterization problem solving for different Alcoa

business units and bath chemistry process control at smelters.

1996-1998 Postdoctoral fellow Chemist, Energy & Environmental Technologies Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories,

Berkeley, California:Developed NIR technology to characterized Hanford waste that has accumulated

at Department of Energy (DOE) facilities to determine water content, polyatomic ions, metals, and total organic carbon

using mid- and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, radiation resistant fiber optic probe, and chemometrics.

1992-1996 Research assistant, Department of Chemistry, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM. Analytical spectroscopy

and multivariate calibration (chemometrics):

Developed FTIR methodology to measure trace water vapor content in corrosive semiconductor gases by FTIR spectroscopy

and Classical Least Squares (CLS) analysis.

1989-1991 Chairman, Department of Chemistry and Metallurgy, TECSUP Technological Institute, Lima, Peru: Developed a technician career in Chemistry and Metallurgy for the Mining and Chemical Industries in Peru.

Managed and supervised personnel, designed and implemented analytical industrial services to industrial companies (determination

of metals using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and organic samples using Gas chromatography), organized industrial mentoring

activities to revise curricula, and initiated a continuing education program in Analytical Chemistry in the evenings.

1987-1988 Chemistry Instructor, Department of Chemistry and Metallurgy, TECSUP Technological Institute, Lima, Peru. Developed and taught courses in Chemistry for technicians: Analytical Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, Organic and Inorganic

Chemistry, General Chemistry, Advanced Topics in Chemistry.

1987 Chemist, Quality Control Department, Peruplast-Dispercol, Lima, Peru:Conducted chemical analysis of plastics and ink products.Undergraduate research Catholic University, Lima, Peru. Gravimetric and wet chemistry analysis for dolomites,
