Experience:
Senior Solutions Architect, EMC Federal Client Services/DoD --
Air Mobility Command (AMC) -- Technical Lead.
Designed and implemented cross-country disaster recovery, SAN/NAS/CAS, and
backup solutions. Utilized EMC
SRDF/DM with SDMM and Veritas Global Cluster Manager to achieve automated
remote replication and application failover.
US Army Reserve Command (USARC) -- Technical Lead.
Designed and implemented multiple SAN/NAS/CAS solutions for USARC HQ, based
on EMC Symmetrix/DMX storage arrays and Brocade fibre switches. Conducted
knowledge transfer and training with USARC personnel, instructing in-house
administrators on best practices for storage management. Currently designing a business continuity
/ disaster recovery solution for USARC data centers.
Solutions Architect, --
2001 -- 2003 -- Technical Lead. Designed and
implemented SAN solutions in New York City
and Tampa for all of Time, Inc
corporate e-mail, based on the EMC Symmetrix 8830 storage arrays and
Brocade Silkworm 12000 fibre switches. Implemented Perl scripts to automate
Microsoft Exchange hot-split backups, and integrated scripts into existing
SAN based Veritas Netbackup infrastructure. Conducted knowledge transfer,
instructing Time, Inc personnel on EMC and storage management best
practices, hot-split backup methodology, and EMC Control Center 5.
Comcast
Cable Communications -- Technical Lead. Designed and implemented
multiple SAN solutions for many divisions of Comcast, based on EMC
Symmetrix storage arrays and McData fibre switches attached to a mix of Sun
Microsystems SunFire servers running Solaris 8. Conducted knowledge
transfer and training with Comcast personnel, instructing in-house
administrators on best practices for storage management. Integrated EMCControlCenter
into Comcast's existing SNMP Management framework. Migrated data from
existing EMC Clariion storage arrays on Brocade fabrics to Symmetrix arrays
on McData fabrics. Currently designing a solution for hot-split backups of
Comcast's VCS Oracle Cluster servers, as well as putting together the
architecture for the merger of AT&T Broadband data into Comcast data
centers by consolidating data from across the country onto EMC Symmetrix
storage arrays in Denver.
Random
House -- Technical Lead. Designed and implemented a SAN solution and
supported the migration of all data from offices in Times Square
to a new building on 55th & Broadway. Wrote Perl scripts to automate
hot-split backups of all fileserver and Exchange data, designing a creative
solution, which was later used by other engineers at other customer sites,
to overcome software limitations that previously were thought to render
multi-BCV (multiple volume snapshots of Exchange) impossible. Conducted
knowledge transfer with Random House personnel.
US
Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) -- Technical Lead. Designed the high
profile ESNCommandCenter, to allow centralized
management of SAN islands across Europe, including
sites in Germany,
United Kingdom,
Italy, and Turkey.
Implemented SAN and NAS solutions based on EMC Symmetrix storage arrays,
McData fibre switches, and EMC Celerra NAS servers. Implemented scripting
to facilitate hot-split backups of Microsoft Exchange servers, allowing for
very fast recovery of Exchange databases in the event of a failure.
Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) -- Technical Lead.
Designed and implemented SAN and NAS solutions in classified and
non-classified environments, based on EMC Symmetrix storage arrays, McData
fibre switches, and EMC Celerra NAS servers. Migrated over 8TB of data from
existing Win2k cluster file servers to Celerra NAS server. Instructed PACAF
personnel on management of EMC hardware and software. Wrote scripts to facilitate
hot split backups of Exchange servers.
and -- Solutions
Engineer. Diagnosed performance problems with capturing digital
streaming video over an extended SAN. Conducted pre-sales meetings and
presentations and met with key executives to design an EMC SAN and HSM
solution to solve storage management problems.
Manager of IT --
1999 -- 2001
Responsible for all aspects of network and systems
administration and data center operations.
Designed, implemented, and maintained a highly
available, scalable enterprise class network in a 24/7 Internet OLTP
operating environment for both production and development systems.
Built and led a team of Systems Administrators and
Network Engineers to ensure continual uptime of core revenue producing
business applications.
Achieved maximum uptimes by deploying highly available
system and network components, including multi-homed Internet connections
to geographically diverse ISP s using BGP4, and Sun Cluster 2.2 for Oracle
Parallel Server on Solaris.
Maintained maximum security by creating multiple DMZ s
with Cisco PIX Firewalls, using hardware accelerated SSL, automating
patchdiag reports on key Sun systems, and establishing secure VPN
connections to partner companies.
Deployed an NT/Win2k network with Exchange 5.5 to
support internal infrastructure, later upgrading to Windows 2000 with
Active Directory and moving file serving from NT to Network Appliance.
Created an Internal Systems Administration group to manage the NT/2000
network.
Designed and maintained highly available Apache web
servers, load balanced using Cisco s Local Director, and secured by SSL
with Verisign signatures.
Automated production and development processes using
Perl and shell scripts.
Played a key role in technology related decision-making
and policy by participating in strategic business planning meetings, and
providing technology recommendations to senior management.
Presented major accomplishments, milestones, and
potential future projects to company board of directors.
Established and maintained relationships with vendors
and partners.
