Started a residential -hardscape- and landscape company that reached $1MM in sales within 18 months and was profitable within the first 12 months. Designed and installed modular outdoor kitchens and outdoor living spaces. Clientele included high-end builders, developers and residential customers.
General Manager
Pavestone Company 2003 to 2005
Complete profit-loss responsibility for the California operations of a national company based in Texas. The California operations included a new segmental retaining wall and interlocking concrete paver plant in Winters, CA and a building products plant in Sacramento, CA. The Winters facility was the fastest growing among 30 other facilities throughout the U.S.
Plants Manager/Northern Division
Ameron International 2001 to 2003
Full responsibility for plant operations and 250 union employees at a Tracy plant and a plant in Portland, OR with total annual sales of $20-30MM in highly engineered water transmission pipe. Improved operating and transportation efficiencies. Also developed and managed "incremental- business projects, including major bridge retrofits valued at $15-20MM annually.
Plant Manager
Herrick Corporation 1993 to1996 and 1980 to 1985
Managed the operations of a state-of-the-art metal products fabricating plant with 165 union employees, an $8MM payroll and a $4MM operating budget. Annual sales exceeded $35MM.
Spearheaded a major cultural change to curtail runaway workers comp costs that threatened the plant`s existence. As a result, the plant remained in business and achieved 500 days without a lost time accident. Workers comp claims were reduced from $740K to less than $240K.

Baycor, Inc. 1985-1992
After a stint at the Bay Area headquarters, I established a Central California Division for a medium sized general building contractor. Duties included business development, project management and estimating. Clients included major high-tech firms such as Xerox, Hewlett-Packard, Veritas and Sun Microsystems.
