(2009) Hanscom AFB Building 1994 Child Development Center Reception Area. Handcrafted and installed attractive reception area cabinetry and desk, and other trim as appropriate. Finished project ahead of schedule and under budget, thus freeing funds to be used for the Building 1999 Youth Program Center Reception Area in 2010. This project generated a Letter of Appreciation for OUTSTANDING CRAFTSMANSHIP AND PROFESSIONALISM for building and installation of the front desk.

(2009) Hanscom AFB Building 1900 Base Clinic. ENTIRE TEARDOWN AND REBUILD and installation from ceramic floor tiles to new ceiling and paint.

KNOWLEDGE OF ROOFING MATERIALS, THEIR INSTALLATION AND REPAIR. Inspect, repair, install and modify roofing systems of tile, roll, felt, shingle, chemical composite and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM). Repair leaky roofing after verifying that interior leaks were not result of burst pipes or other non-roofing related cause.

Inspection of two building roofs on base and subsequent recommendations led to condemnation of the buildings, thus protecting the lives of all occupants.

PLAN, ESTIMATE AND ORDER LABOR AND MATERIALS. Effectively plan for efficient use of necessary materials. Through careful conservation of materials and funds, was able to save enough funding to construct other projects with no additional money needed.

(2010) Hanscom AFB Building 1999 Youth Program Center Reception Area. Handcrafted and installed attractive cabinetry and desk, and other trim to enhance appearance of this new area. The special construction project was FUNDED BY COST-SAVINGS I ACHIEVED on the Building 1994 Child Development Center Reception Area.

DEMONSTRATED INITIATIVE. Inspector General (IG) of Hanscom AFB requested that the benches around the Flag Memorial be completely replaced. I took the initiative to refurbish the benches to a like-new condition, saving the government significant funds.

The IG called my superiors to extend his thanks for a job well done, and said that I exceeded his expectations.

SUPPORT SPECIAL EVENTS ON BASE. For every Electronic Systems Center (ESC) Commanders Call, Heroes Homecoming, Oktoberfest and Summer Bash for 9 years on Hanscom AFB, I have been responsible for set up and tear down of staging, other equipment and building structures.

UTILIZE SAFETY PRACTICES, MAINTAIN SAFE AND CLEAN ENVIRONMENT. Use knowledge of safety regulations and procedures to protect life, health and property on Hanscom AFB.

TRAIN AND GUIDE OTHER EMPLOYEES. I am the trainer, lead and mentor of choice for all new hires. This allows for a quality introduction to their position, ensures they possess the needed carpentry skills and use the correct work order process.

CONSTRUCT AND REPAIR WOODEN AND WOOD SUBSTITUTE STRUCTURES. These included framework, rafters, load-bearing walls and trusses, staircases and trim.

PERFORM MINOR REPAIRS TO WALL PARTITIONS AND MASONRY STRUCTURES, CREATE CEMENT AND CONCRETE SURFACES. Repaired steps, sidewalks, patios and other flatwork as needed, and do minor concrete projects. Used screed boards, floats and trowels, and produced broom-finish surface for areas where greater traction was a priority.

FABRICATE AND INSTALL METAL PARTS. Fabricated and installed metal flashings, vents etc. as needed. Made roof flashing, gutters, ventilation ducts, metal drip caps and thresholds for doors and windows.

RECORD AND DOCUMENT ACTIONS. Used Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to receive work orders and verify completion; processed hard-copy work orders when circumstances were appropriate. Maintained complete records for review by superiors. Early adopter of appropriate technology to enhance workflow.

Member of Snow Removal Team responsible for clearing steps and walkways across entire Hanscom AFB. Base safety standards were consistently exceeded, protecting lives and health of the base.

Damage Assessment Team. Quickly responded to damage from Hurricane Irene (June 2010) and the ice storm of December 2008. Secured and repaired leaking roofs and burst pipes, promptly restoring livable conditions in harsh winter environment.

Functioned as Civil Engineering Emergency Service, on-call after hours. Also designated Backup Locksmith for over 9 years. On call 24/7 to allow appropriate people entrance to or exit from secured areas, as well as installing new locking and security hardware and mechanisms as needed for upgrades and repairs.

RESPOND TO UNPLANNED URGENT SITUATIONS:

Water pipes had broken for base health clinic. Large hoses were used to bring water to the clinic, but made the road impassable for vehicle traffic. Designed, fabricated, installed and monitored custom-made ramps to guide 4 lanes of vehicle traffic over the water hoses. This sudden need was completely addressed in a single afternoon, thus allowing important medical, administrative and general vehicle traffic to resume on short notice and ensuring smooth operation of Hanscom AFB infrastructure and health functions.
