Independent professional journalist with 15 years experience in various capacities as:

-co-founder/managing editor of a successful freelance writing enterprise;

-assistant editor for the leading English daily in Malaysia;

-public relations practitioner and organiser of conferences, computer fairs and other events;

-advertising liaison between editorial and industry; and

During early newsroom experience reported on various beats including politics, disasters, crime, court, food, fashion and lifestyle, before becoming the first woman reporter in Malaysia to specialize in technology.

Co-founder of two independent companies specializing in freelance writing for regional markets, and organising events for healthcare, medical and technology industries.

Contributed exclusive news, features and analyses to top regional publications including Unlimited (Auckland), CNET Asia, ZDNET Asia, Newsbytes, Intelligent Enterprise Asia, Nikkei Electronics & Reader's Digest.

In events management, organised a successful regional medical conference for over 350 doctors and launched products for clients such as Alcatel (mobile phones) and Sophos (anti-virus software).

In.Tech, Star Publications (M) Bhd : Sept 1993 to Jan 2000

Position: Assistant Editor

Joined Malaysia's leading English newspaper (current circulation: 280,000, readership 1,170,000) as a senior reporter and advertising coordinator of technology section. In addition to writing duties, was tasked with promoting publication to vendors and advertisers for advertising and marketing programs. In my first year, I assisted in raising almost one million ringgit (NZ$560,000) worth of advertising for the weekly pull-out, In.Tech, and was promoted to Assistant Editor with additional responsibilities editing and managing a team of 12 reporters. Pagination increased from 16 pages to 64 pages, while advertising consistently grew by 10-15 percent annually during the seven years there.

In addition:

Assisted the technology team with conception, development and launch of Star Online at thestar.com.my, currently the most popular website in Malaysia with an average of 18 million to 20 million pageviews a month.

Assisted with organizing MICROFEST in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, the most popular and biggest PC trade show in the country with combined 160,000 visitors annually.

Assisted in production of CD-ROMs, advertising and promotional materials and liaising with vendors for products reviews, advertorials, seminars, talks and workshops.

Organised training and motivational workshops for staff as well as reorganised work processes, planned editorial calendars and procured and deployed new and effective network system for editorial team.

Asian Business Press : Dec 1989 to Apr 1993

Position: Correspondent, Malaysia

Worked as solo Malaysian correspondent for Asia Computer Weekly, a leading regional technology publication now owned by CMP Media. Job responsibilities included covering daily technology news, features and profiles and organising roundtable sessions and media workshops for the publication. During four years at ACW, also travelled to US, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore on various news assignments and filed country reports on their IT growth trends, policies and development.
