PERSONAL INFORMATION
Born the first child into a family of eight, after my seminary training and education, I ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1985. My pastoral experiences and encounters have brought me in contact with people from all walks of life, different cultures, traditions and ideologies, academic and religious backgrounds make me best suited for this job. As a teacher in the seminary, I related with seminarians, their parents, guardians and families. I took care of their academic, spiritual, physical and emotional needs. The experience, though not an easy task was enriching and fulfilling. As a pastor, and/or a chaplain, my ministry involved visiting the sick, the needy, administering the sacraments and carrying out parish administrations.
As a Chaplain Intern and Priest Chaplain, working in Banner Good Samaritan as Priest Chaplain, my areas of focus included: Oncology, Neurology, Rehabilitation, Heart Center, Renal and Cardiac Telemetry, General Medicine, WT6 (Behavioral), Med-Surgical, Intensive and Extensive Care, Childrens, Pediatrics, Emergency, Short Stay, Palliative Care and Rehabilitation units. In these areas, I provided pastoral care to patients, families, care givers and staff. I also participated in 12-hour On-call, and officiated most often in inter-faith worship services (e.g. Memorial Services for those who died in the hospital, burying the foetal demise). I did also and still conduct the Eucharistic celebration in the hospital Chapel for Catholic patients, families, care givers and staff on a regular basis. Finally, I provided the Sacraments for the Sick (Reconciliation, Anointing and Eucharist) to Catholic patients. Presently, my place of work, City of Hope, is a research Institute for Cancer of all sorts. It ranks 17th in the whole nation of the recognized Research Institutes for Cancer (www. cancer.gov). Interdisciplinary Rounds is a systemic culture of City of Hope National Medical Center and therefore, it is something I am well adjusted to. I have continued to provide spiritual care services, leadership, information, symptom management, coping and care giving, grief/loss support with compassionate care, innovation, and accountability, reaching out to religious leaders from other faith communities. In my present assignment in City of Hope, Duarte, I am responsible for organizing and training the volunteers for the Spiritual Care Services. I also provide services to the Spanish patients, families, care givers and staff.
Hobbies: Reading, Travelling, Writing, Lawn and Table Tennis.
