My Ph.D. research project

was on the development of a computer-vision system for obtaining the weight of live aquaculture

fish from video images taken as they were pumped through a transparent

tube. Conceived and optimized an image-to-weight algorithm that would work

for live fish viewed from any angle, designed and built the fish imaging

system, and experimentally proved that this computer-imaging system would correctly

estimate the weight of the live fish with an error of less than 1.0% (versus

previous methods with accuracies of only within 15%).

During this period also did extensive bibliographic research on omega-3 fish oils, food colloids

and macromolecules, surimi extrusion, and computer control of aquaculture

facilities.

surimi, omega-3 rich fish oil and liquid fish fertilizer from menhaden,
