Resume:

USAF Vet seeking employment (franklin va **mi radius)

Date: 2013-01-04, 12:24PM abp9tb@r.postjobfree.com

Hi. I'm 34 white male seeking full-time employment. Medical related field preferred but not required. I was a member of USAF and receieved an honorable discharge. Many companies can get a tax break for hiring veterans as well.

Here is a little about myself. I graduated Franklin HS 1996. Went to James Madison University for Integrated Science and Technology. I graduated in 2001 with a bachelors degree. This is in Harrisonburg, VA. Basically it is similar to a general engineering degree. My concentration was Engineering/Manufacturing with minor in Material Science. This degree was not specific like chemical or electrical so made finding a job difficult. Most employers have never heard of it. Basically the program is a broad knowledge of math and science and computers. Then the last two years the student focuses on his/her particular focus. Since the world is rapidly changing ISAT grads will not only have a narrow knowledge base, but have a broader base to change to the constantly changing high tech world we live in today. Here is a link to the classes ( http://bsisat.jmu.edu/glance.html). Here is a list of the Engineering/Manufacturing classes, just scroll down to the correct sector (http://bsisat.jmu.edu/concentrations.html).

After 9/11 I decided to join the United States Air Force where I was a Medical Technician. 4NO is the military code. Basically I worked in a family practice setting. I would check patients in, take their blood pressure (and other vital signs) and weight, ask what medications they were on. I could book appointments, pull records, assist with deployment shots and paperwork and minor procedures such as mole removal etc. I worked with a doctor another medical technician as well as a nurse. I was able to work in a high pace environment. I'm a team player and fast learner. I was a EMT basic and CPR certified. I got out of the military in May 2005 with an honorable discharge.

My plan was to go back to engineering maybe get a job as an entry level process engineer (just as an example) or something related to engineering, but when I got out I found that companies wanted at least 2 years experience and after being in the Air Force a few years I was several years removed from anything related to engineering.

So I used my GI Bill to go back to school this time for Registered Nursing. I graduated from a local community college almost 2 years ago. I have tried taking my state boards 4 times and have not been successful as of late. Two summers ago I helped with tennis with the local pro and this past year I tried some travel agency work. Besides that I worked as a substitute teacher for several years, but I did not get to work as much as I would have liked.

My goal these past 2 years since graduating nursing school was to find a job and while I'm working continue to study for the nursing state boards. I know I can pass them some people just take a few more tries. Finding a job has been very difficult for me. I have been unable to even find a minimum wage job. A lot of that time was studying for my boards which in itself was a full-time job as well as job hunting which is another full time job. Most applications online are very time consuming and after many many applications I have had a handful of interviews but did not get the job.

I would like to do something similar to what I was doing in the Air Force just working in a doctor's office and check in patients and take their vital signs. I admire CNA's, but I'm open to pretty much anything medical related outside of that. Even if its answering the phones, pulling records, transfering patients, etc. I have looked into a little bit of something like pharmacy technician where the company will train you. That pharmacy knowledge coupled with the nursing knowledge and math knowlege from engineering should help me better prepare for my RN boards. This is just an example.

I have a car and are willing to travel an hour to work. I currently reside in Franklin, VA. I am open to pretty much anything right now. Thanks for your time. I am willing to switch careers if I am able to make a living wage. If I had to choose would be something medical related or engineering related as my second choice. I am open to any and all possibilities at this point.

I am a hard worker, fast learner, team player, on time, drug free, never been to jail and have a clean criminal history. I am just looking for an opportunity to get my foot in the door somewhere and work my way up and be an asset to the company and business. Again thanks for giving a veteran an opportunity.
