(1) Memphis Fire Department as firefighter : 10/1989 to present (plans are in place to retire from the MFD & to begin another chapter/career in my life)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Works under an assigned fire station Lieutenant: listens for alarm & details of radio message received from alarm office. Decides safest exit routes for self/victim; pries open vehicles, equipment, or structures using specialized equipment Extinguishes fires in areas where there is no visibility and extreme heat; ventilating structures using axes, pike poles, or other equipment; preserves evidence of arson for use by an arson investigator; develops & maintains current knowledge of standard firefighting procedures; maintains certifications; cleans equipment; inspects or tests equipment on apparatus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift and carry a victim, hose, or other equipment weighing an average 160 to 200 lbs during rescue. Requires walking, running, crawling, standing, lifting, climbing, or stooping for long periods of time while wearing assigned equipment. The ability to meet all physical demands to extinguish fires and to make inspections of buildings, hydrants & immediate surroundings for existence of fire hazards.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposed to extreme heat, thick smoke, & toxic fumes in fire fighting situations.. Works (24) hour shifts, fifty-six (56) hours a week. Exposed to all types of weather conditions. Deals with the public under stressful & dangerous conditions

(2) Operations Manager of C.E. Thompson Lumber Co.: 09/07/1987 to 12/1988

Directly responsible for daily safe operations of the retail yard including the warehouse, yard and truck fleet personnel with good systems and analytical skills. Overseeing all equipment replacement & repair. Taking care of logistics and providing superior quality service to contractors & retail customers. Setting up & overseeing a safety program and experience with DOT regulations & procedures. Blueprint reading & takeoffs, ordering materials and scheduling my work force for each job site according to manpower skills. Writing contracts with home & business owners. Responsible for company PR, job records & accounting. Maintaining a good company & supplier relationship in regards to on time bill payment and sales representatives.

(4) Firestone Tire & Rubber Company: 03/01/1974 to 03/01/1976

Forklift driver & materials handler for the Firestone Stores Department, which supplied the Firestone 37 acre production plant. Participated in the S/R & in house delivery of raw rubber & chemicals in the production of a finished rubber mix for tire building. Supplied & stocked these same materials to the mixing machines & operators as a team worker. The Stores Dept. was a very fast paced environment with an emphasis on multitasking as the job demanded swift procurement of produces & supplies to be distributed throughout the entire Firestone factory of 37 acres.
