PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Grady Health Systems Atlanta, GA 8/12 to 1/13

Administrative Intern Grady is a 900bed, public hospital, locally owned and locally governed healthcare system. Moreover, Grady is a Level 1 trauma center and serves over 600,000 patients per year. Rotations include the following departments; Operating Room (OR), Emergency Department (ED), and Operations Excellence. As an intern I have had the opportunity to shadow the director of Perioperative (Surgical Services/OR) as well as Vice President of the ED. Responsibilities include working on projects for each department.

The first project consists of gathering and analyzing data concerning the start (wheels-in) times for the operating room. The Senior Vice President (SVP) as well as the Perioperative Directors goal is to have all 18 operating rooms starting at 7:30am.

The second project is regarding the ED. The SVP and VPs goal is to reduce throughput/length of stay in the ED. The second project consists of reviewing data to determine referral patterns and appropriate utilization of the ED. Other responsibilities included assisting the Perioperative Director with quarterly budget report, reviewing legal documents, attending meetings, assisting with supplies, and generating patient volume graphs for the director and the Senior VP of operations.

Health Information & Management System Society (HIMSS)

Intern Chicago, IL 8/11 to 8/12

HIMSS is a US not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting a better understanding of health care information and management systems. As an intern I worked remotely from Statesboro, Georgia. Responsibilities included retrieving and compiling data into a comprehensive list of spreadsheets for the Health Information Exchange (HIE) and Regional Healthcare Information exchange Organization (RHIO) census project. The census project includes every RHIO as well as every HIE that currently exist in the United States.

Health information exchange is the transmission of healthcare-related data among facilities, health information organizations (HIO) and government agencies according to national standards. A RHIO is the business that manages the exchange of healthcare information across all participating stakeholders. Health information exchange is an integral component of the health information technology (HIT) infrastructure under development in the United States and the associated National Health Information Network (NHIN).

Georgia Southern University Statesboro, GA 8/10 to 5/12

Graduate Assistant- Georgia Southern University is Georgia's large-scale, small-feel research university offering a classic residential campus experience and more than 100 degrees. Responsibilities included assisting the professor with classroom duties and assignments, and compiling research data into comprehensive spread sheets. Other responsibilities included typing reports, and other clerical tasks.

Hope Haven Athens, GA 10/09 to 8/10

Direct Support Technician- Hope Haven of Northeast Georgia, Inc. is a private nonprofit corporation whose primary purpose is to provide services for individuals with developmental disabilities who reside in the Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties. Responsibilities included completing daily logs for clients and monitoring them while they took their medication. Other responsibilities included preparing meals, cleaning, transporting, and communicating with the nurse regarding medications.

Georgia College and State University Milledgeville, GA 1/08 to 5/09

Help Desk/IT - As Georgia's public liberal arts university, Georgia College offers undergraduate as well as graduate level programs of study to talented and motivated students in a residential college setting. Responsibilities included assessing, repairing, and counseling students with software issues. Typical issues typically involved computers being infected by viruses, spyware, malware, or other software/hardware related problems. Other responsibilities included assisting the manager with inventory, and organized all customer files dating back to 2003.

Walmart, Inc. Stockbridge, GA 2003-2006

Sales Associate- Walmart serves retail customers and members more than 200 million times per week. Walmart operates under 69 different banners in 27 countries. With fiscal year 2012 sales of approximately $444 billion, Walmart employs 2.2 million associates worldwide. Departments included toys, lawn and garden, cart pusher, and occasionally helped in receiving. Responsibilities included stocking merchandise, and assisting customers.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

Oconee Regional Medical Center Milledgeville, GA 11/08 to 6/09

Volunteer Emergency Room- Oconee Regional Medical Center and Oconee Regional Health Systems, Inc. was formed as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization to serve as a holding company to operate the hospital. The hospital is licensed for 140 acute care beds and for 15 beds in its Skilled Nursing Unit, which serves patients requiring extended care. Shadowed the physician assistant and observed clinical tasks. Responsibilities included preparing suture table, and other procedural tasks, along with transporting patients, and communicated with staff about patients.

HealthSouth Barnesville, GA 9/04 to 5/05

Volunteer Rehabilitation Center- As one of the nations largest healthcare providers specializing in rehabilitation, HealthSouths priority is to deliver high quality patient care. Shadowed the physical therapist with her patients and supported patients with exercises and lifting tasks. Other responsibilities included preparing the patients beds, and cleaning the equipment.
