SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST

Process Research and Development - Organic Synthesis - Asymmetric Molecules

- Method Development - Regulated Environments

Senior Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Industry with an emphasis on Process

Research and Development. Experienced Researcher with "hands-on"

experience in bench to pilot plant development as well as chemical

production. My passions include conceptual design, process optimization,

and production of the first kilogram of API.

Selected Accomplishments

. Developed stereoselective routes to CNS target SCH 39166 that resulted

in a more efficient/high throughput process.

. Developed an enantioselective reaction through a novel "chiral

aziridinum" intermediate.

. Prepared Toxicology/Phase I batches of the pro-drug of NOXAFIL.

. Established an alternative route to RO5006819 that led to a 40% more

efficient process.

. Developed an efficient method to construct the triazolone headpiece in

an NNRTI program.

. Key contributor to the downstream process of CodeXolTM.

Professional Experience

CODEXIS INC, Redwood City, CA

Scientist July 2011-October 2012

. Developed and explored recovery/upgrading processes for CodeXolTM, a

bio-based process for the manufacture of detergent alcohols from

lignocellulosic biomass.

. Composed DSP Technical Transfer document for a pilot facility(1500 L)

in Rivalta (Italy).

. Performed DSP on 650 L scale for production samples.

. Execute fermentations (e.coli.) on 30 L scale.

ROCHE PALO ALTO LLC, Palo Alto, CA

Research Scientist II 2001-March 2010

. Prepared/developed catalytic homogenous/heterogeneous catalysts for

catalytic hydrogenation and reductive amination processes.

. Produced APIs and intermediates thereof to be utilized in

Pharmaceutical Development.

. Created process designs for NCE and evaluated their process potential.

. Developed chemical transformations to be run safely/efficiently and

reproducibly in fixed reactors.

. Composed Pilot Plant Procedures and complete Batch Records to meet

cGMP requirements.

. Performed large-scale reactions under cGMP in fixed reactors in Kilo

Lab and Pilot Plant.

. Demonstrated use of automation equipment and performed structural

identification by spectrophotometric analysis.

SCHERING PLOUGH RESEARCH INSTITUTE, Kenilworth, NJ

Senior Scientist 1995-2001

Associate Principal Scientist 1991-1995

. Designed and developed safe and economical processes to experimental

Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).

. Produced APIs and intermediates thereof to be utilized in

Pharmaceutical Development.

. Wrote Pilot Plant Procedures and complete Batch Records to meet cGMP

requirements.

. Acted as an "in-house" consultant for issues related to process

chemistry and engineering, QA/QC, safety, stability and formulation.

. Supervised a junior level chemist.

. Supervised summer interns.

. Used automated reaction technology.

. Studied Statistical Design.

. Worked cross-functionally within organization to achieve common goals.

Previous Experience.

SYVA COMPANY, Cupertino, CA

Chemist 1

. Responsibilities included the preparation of drug derivatives and drug-

enzyme conjugations as components in medical diagnostic assays.
