In 2002, God nudged me to leave the marketplace and use my spiritual gifts in ministry. I have been
blessed to be involved in small group ministries ever since, utilizing my experiences and gifts in
leadership development, recruitment and discernment. I also have creative abilities allow me to "think
outside of the box" and look at new ways to attract more people into small group life.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Mariners Church April 2006 - Present
Licensed Director - Small Groups and Life Groups
I have been a member of the Mariners Church Life Groups/Small Group team over the past 6- years. As the
ministry director, my responsibilities have included:
• Leading and managing the Groups ministry team
• Manage the Groups coordinator (group shepherds) team
• Shepherd our Life Group and Small Group leaders
• Plan & execute the Life Group assimilation process, along with Grouplink events.
• Continue to lead the Living Room program on a quarterly basis.
Manage the Dashboard process (ministry scorecard) every six months for Mariners’ staff
•
• Manage the Groups patio presence each weekend.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Life Groups - when Mariners Church launched "Rooted" in the winter of 2012, I realized that
graduates of the program were going to desire more from their small group than what we currently
offered. They were going to want to continue the Rooted experience, fuel their desire to be missional
and experience the disciplines of prayer, serving, evangelism and communion on a regular basis.
Therefore, we launched a new form of small groups called Life Groups. Today, we have close to
1,500 people now engaged in a Life Group, while we still maintain our vibrant small group ministry.
The Living Room - in the winter of 2007, I realized the need for a safe place for new Christian's to
experience small group life. It was clearly a very large "step" for a new Christian to go to a stranger's
home to experience a small group for the first time. Therefore, we created a new on-campus program
called "The Living Room". This is where new Christians can come and become an on-campus group
that meets weekly. For a period of six weeks, they come and have a hands-on experience with a
small group study and discussion. The majority of the time these people go on to become part of a
home small group in their neighborhood. The Living Room still continues today after 5 years.
Grouplink - experimented with a new way of connecting people into small groups. The reasons were
many, which included a more personal connection experience. Prior to Grouplink, connections were
made via email and/or phone calls. Grouplink enables the facilitators and new participants to meet
briefly face to face and get to know each other a little more personally than via email or phone.
Administratively, it also helps us because the mere ability to get everyone into a room and make
connections allows us to do this more efficiently and enable our team to focus more time on
connections that are more challenging when it comes to time, location, etc.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - OUTSIDE OF SMALL GROUPS
Licensed pastor – responsibilities include performing weddings, funerals as well as
•
shepherding our church members on a regular basis as Pastor of the Day approximately two
times per month
• Manager of the church wide ministry plan process
• Co-lead Baptism Class with Spiritual Growth Pastor
Hour of Power Television Ministry September 2003-December 2005
Small Groups Director
Reported to Robert Schuller, Jr. – I was brought in to launch a brand new small group ministry via the
television broadcast. This included launching local small groups as well as building a plan to launch
small groups across the United States. This required curriculum development in partnership with
Zondervan, marketing and promotion via television as well as the creation of a beta test model to
strategically launch the program in various markets in the U.S. The program was suspended due to
financial difficulties within the church. While at times it was difficult working through the trials of the
Crystal Cathedral, my position allowed me to try “new things’ and it created an opportunity to learn a
great deal about what works and what doesn’t work in small groups.
