PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
BANNER ENGINEERING 1998- 2012
DIRECTOR, PRODUCT PLANNING 2009-2012
Drove new product development investments from ideation and VOC through stage gate development.
Produced five year product roadmaps, pricing strategies, promotional plans and developed sales tools.
Negotiated brand label and co-development contracts.
Developed five-year growth plan for new product area taking into account end-user trends,
competitive landscape and the potential to build and sustain competitive advantage. Result:
5 year investment budgets and hiring plan.
Managed product portfolio, balancing growth, risk and fit with distribution channel which
produced Banner’s highest group revenue growth for the last 2 years.
Produced detailed business cases involving revenue projections, NPD costs and financial
analysis that launched 3 new product platforms in the LED lighting group.
Negotiated successful private brand label agreements with Taiwanese and Swiss partners
resulting in 2 new profitable sensing product groups.
Designed comprehensive marketing plans (both new product and new market/applications),
including: market analysis, competitive comparisons, VOC studies, target customer
identification, product messaging, product launch plans resulting in accelerated ramp-up of
initial sales.
DIRECTOR, NEW RODUCT DEVOLOPMENT 2005-2009
Led team of technologists to develop new technologies including radar, pulse time-of-flight laser
measurement, phase-based laser distance sensors, optical triangulation sensors, color analysis sensors,
water detection sensors, FPGA-based signal processing algorithms, and low cost ultrasonic sensors.
Identified customer needs, wrote product plans that launched 4 new profitable product lines
(Radar, laser distance sensing, water sensor, and magnetic sensing) and received 2 patents
for FMCW radar.
Utilized strict stage-gate review process that ended 4 development projects as early in the
process as possible saving at least $600,000 in R&D costs.
DIVISION DIRECTOR, MEASUREMENT PRODUCTS 2000-2005
Led a team of 18 engineers, technicians and support staff for a variety of successful product designs
through a four-level stage gate NPD process.
Introduced 6 new product lines including ultrasonic, magnetic, photoelectric and laser
sensors.
Managed cross-functional teams, doubled group revenue over a 5 year span.
PRODUCT MANAGER 1998-2000
Maintained high profile contacts with customers and channel members, introduced 2 new
profitable product lines.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
EMERSON ROSEMOUNT
PRODUCT MANAGER, LEVEL MEASUREMENT PRODUCTS
Planned and prepared the Level Group’s Growth Planning Conference presentation for
Emerson Corporate resulting in continued R&D funding from St Louis.
Analyzed market research data (including conjoint analysis) for level product customers that
produced 2 optimized product specifications.
Conducted pricing study, developed marketing plan, produced promotional materials and
budget resulting in $300,000 product roll-out.
Solved field issues at several early radar installations in breweries, paper mills and chemical
plants resulting in several design changes to the beta design specification.
SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER, SPECIALTY PRESSURE GROUP
Designed niche versions of the 2088 pressure transmitter for the pulp and paper industry and
dairy industries resulting in 2 new product extensions.
Designed special production, oil fill and diaphragm welding techniques allowing smooth
production and very low scrap rates.
APPLICATIONS ENGINEER, PRESSURE PRODUCTS
Trained salespeople, solved technical application problems, made customer value
calculations (cost of ownership) that allowed salespeople to close numerous large accounts.
Visited 20 Rosemount customers, conducted training seminars that enabled customers to
save 50% in set-up and maintenance time.
MANUFACTURING ENGINEER, PRESSURE PRODUCTS
Completed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to solve major product failure issue on nuclear
power plant instrumentation.
Improved various aspects of the pressure transmitter manufacturing process, resulting in
lower scrap rates and higher throughput on a $250 million product line.
Transferred technology, trained personnel to set up Rosemount plant in Beijing, China.
DESIGN ENGINEER
Completed FEA project to double the temperature stability of Rosemount’s $200 million
product line, extending the product’s life by at least 10 years.
Designed new die-cast housings for the pressure transmitters, giving an old product line a
fresh new look resulting in extended sales period.
