OBJECTIVE

Engineering position involved with the development/validation of embedded software

including microcontrollers and/or DSPs

CAREER SUMMARY

Software Engineer with experience in embedded software utilizing both assembly and C

languages as well as high level software for the purpose of tuning and testing products.

Products developed include automotive sound systems, noise reduction headsets, and

automotive sensors. Strengths include requirements definition and analysis, problem

solving, attention to detail and improving the efficiency of procedures and testing.

EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

BOSE CORPORATION, Framingham, MA 1998 to 2009

Embedded Software Engineer, Automotive Systems Division (2006 to 2009)

- Responsible for embedded DSP software for new/existing automotive sound systems.

* Performed Continuing Engineering on existing products by implementing customer change

requests and resolving defects found by Bose internal validation group or the customer.

Changes involved assembly language programming with Freescale DSP s.

* Designed and implemented an algorithm on the Freescale 56371 DSP to analyze an incoming

ASAD (Asynchronous Stream Associated Data) channel and update a host microcontroller via

GPIO when the audio format changed.

* Developed an input mixer, on both the Freescale 56371 and Analog Devices SHARC DSP,

which down-mixed or cross-mixed incoming audio channels so that audio formats between 2.0

and 5.1 could be presented in stereo/surround modes as appropriate.

* Implemented customer requirements to create a reference channel on the Freescale 56371

DSP that was fed to a hands-free telephone system. This channel consisted of a mix of

incoming navigation/telephone signals and was conditionally downsampled and filtered.

* Contributed to the re-design of the SPI-based C language communication protocol used

between Analog Devices SHARC DSP s and a host microcontroller.

* Software development involved following a process for project planning, requirements,

design, tracking, and validation. Tasks included attending/authoring code reviews and

process document reviews as well as drafting documents to support the process. Software

was maintained in CVS or Microsoft Visual Source Safe.

DSP Software Tools Engineer, Automotive Systems Division (2002 to 2006)

- Responsible for software tools used to tune, debug and validate systems.

* Designed and implemented software tools used to tune DSP algorithms. Tuning involved

modifying/viewing data in DSP memory in real-time via the serial port. The tools had a GUI

or command line interface and were written in Matlab.

* Developed software tools used in the verification and validation of DSP software

components. Measured results were compared to reference models to ensure that software met

requirements.

* Developed software used in the database build process that generated the image flashed

into the DSP. This software was written in Matlab or Perl and translated tuning parameters

associated with DSP algorithms into the needed hex values.

BOSE CORPORATION, Framingham, MA, 1998 to 2002DESIGN ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST,

NOISE REDUCTION TECHNOLOGY GROUP

- Responsible for acoustical/electrical testing in the development of Active Noise-

Canceling headsets.

* Designed/redesigned the hardware & software for several data acquisition systems so

that test of headsets in design, manufacturing, and customer service was fully automated.

Software-controlled relays replaced manual switches and user input was consolidated to

test startup/completion. The software routines were written with Bose software tools that

ran in a UNIX environment. The manufacturing and customer service test systems also

involved setting up test limits and monitoring yields.

* Designed/redesigned the hardware & software for functional test of PCB s so that

testing was fully automated. Visual Basic was used to control an HP data logger and

spectrum analyzer via GPIB commands. The data logger contained a switch module that

allowed access to the various test points.

* Performed various electro-acoustic measurements on prototypes to evaluate system and

sub-component transfer functions over the audio bandwidth. Measured data was analyzed and

reduced using Matlab, Excel, or Bose software tools.

* Tested and debugged prototype electronic circuits and PCB's to the component level.

Circuit analysis tools were used to aid in the debug process. Also, developed a failure

analysis guide for manufacturing line technicians/operators for PCB s failing test.

TEXAS INSTRUMENTS, Attleboro, MA, 1990 to 1998DESIGN ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

- Responsible for new product development testing, design validation, failure analysis,

and manufacturing line support of automotive sensors

* Designed data acquisition systems for test of products. Visual Basic was used to read

from DAQ cards and to control instruments such as temperature chambers, data loggers and

impedance analyzers via GPIB and RS-232. Measured data was analyzed and reduced using

Excel.

* Developed resistance welding profiles to improve performance of capacitive-based

sensing element.
