Rabbi Gary D. Kessler is currently the Spiritual Leader and Educational Director of the conservative Temple Beth-El of Bellmore in North Bellmore, N.Y. since the fall of 2008 and prior to this he was the Spiritual Leader of the traditional conservative - Congregation Beth Shalom in downtown Ottawa, Ontario, Canada from 2005 - 2008. Prior to this he served at B'nai Israel Synagogue, an egalitarian - conservative congregation from July of 2000 August of 2005 until its closing as its Rabbi and he served Beth Isaiah Congregation in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, a traditional-conservative synagogue, for six years, since August 1994, as its Rabbi and Cantor.

He came to Corpus Christi with experience as not only a Rabbi and Cantor but also as an Assistant Rabbi-Education and Youth Director, having served eight years at Congregation Ahavath Sholom in Fort Worth, Texas from 1986 - 1994 and two years at Tiferet Israel Congregation in Dallas, Texas from 1984 - 1986. In Ft. Worth, as educational director, Rabbi Kessler directed a school with over 285 students and a teaching staff of 27. Rabbi Kessler also served congregations in West Palm Beach, Fla. and Youngstown, Ohio as Cantor/Educator/Youth Director from 1982 - 1984.

In Guelph, Rabbi Kessler provided chaplaincy services for the Homewood Health Center, Guelph Correctional Centre, and the University of Guelph as well as other intercommunal affairs and activities. He served on the Guelph Ministerial Association, the Univ. of Guelph Campus Ministry, Guelph Civic Interfaith Group, the Ontario Multifaith Council on Spiritual and Religious Care. In Corpus Christi, Rabbi Kessler was a member of the Interfaith Voices and was very involved in community and civic affairs. In Ottawa, Rabbi Kessler was a member of the Sandy Hill Interfaith Council and Interfaith Ottawa and a member of the Southeast Ontario Regional Multifaith Council and the All Party Interfaith Parliamentary Friendship Group which met on Parliament Hill. Rabbi Kessler was honored in Ottawa on November 8, 2007 for his extensive work in the interfaith community by the State of Israel Bonds Cabinet.

Rabbi Kessler is a native of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He lived and studied in Israel for a period of nine years and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in July 2000 with his Israeli born wife Ruth, who served as the Program Director at the JCC Director of the Community Hebrew School, and their three children, Brach, Nathaniel and Chava. In Ottawa Ruth served as the Director of the Israeli House and was the Principal of the Melton School for Adults at the JCC as well as a teacher of Hebrew at the Yitzchak Rabin High School. She currently is a teacher of Judaica and Hebrew in the North Bellmore area. Rabbi Kessler holds a B.A. in Education from Tel Aviv University and Semicha from the Va'ad Harabbanim of America in New York, N.Y.

Rabbi Kessler is a member of the American Board of Rabbis, Long Island Board of Rabbis, Cantorial Council of America and the Toronto Council of Hazzanim as well as the Coalition in Alternatives in Jewish Education, Canadian Voice Care Foundation, the Canadian Jewish Congress and the Association for Supervision Curriculum Development.
