Directed professional services firm from early stages through IPO; history includes start-up of technology

and regional practices, successful turnaround of under-performing domestic and international operations.

Served as Interim CEO for several start-up companies originating from the Center for Entrepreneurship at

the Fisher College of Business in the Ohio State University. These experiences lead to my being asked to

assist in the founding of the 14Ninetytwo incubator at the TechColumbus facility in Columbus, OH.

CEO of successful start-up venture in the Healthcare software industry. Transformed an IT service

company into a product company. Products were marketed by GE Healthcare and AWHONN.

Coauthored the OhioTechAngels Due Diligence and Valuation guidelines. The Ohio TechAngels are the

third largest angel investor group in the U.S. with over 250 members.

Initiated software factory concept with development centers located in Columbus, Montreal, Kansas City,

Sydney and Mumbai; utilized object-component technology to create software systems in multi-tier,

enterprise client-server environments; employed more than 500 developers.

Directed turnaround of a multi-year project with Public Retirement System; project represented 70% of

company’s revenue but was not profitable; implemented project methodology approach and reorganized

staff structure to emphasize functional approach; more than doubled account revenue from $6 million to

$12 million annually while increasing net profits to 90% of company’s total.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

NANOFIBER SOLUTIONS, Columbus, OHIO

Chief Executive Officer, 2009 to Present. Start-up company that manufactures non-biological nanofiber layers

for use in cell culture plates. These layers mimic the human cellular architecture and allow cancer researchers a

more effective platform for research.

• Obtained initial funding by from Ohio’s Third Frontier Program and the Deloitte/Fisher Business Plan

competition.

• Negotiated an Intellectual Property agreement with Ohio State for exclusive rights.

• Directed branding and initial marketing efforts for first product.

STRATEGIC THINKING INDUSTRIES, Columbus, OHIO

Chief Executive Officer, 2005 to 2010. Start-up company that provides a variety of products related to the

dissemination and analytics of Labor & Delivery information for Health Care systems. These technologies allow

practitioners and administrators to better focus on their primary objective: providing the best patient care possible.

• Negotiated partnership agreement with GE Healthcare to market STI’s Advanced Reporting Solution.

• Negotiated partnership with AWHONN to market STI’s national perinatal database as the AWHONN

Edge solution.

• Directed the development of STI’s Sunsetting, Archiving and Dynamic Interface solutions; effectively

transforming the company from a service to a product focus.

THE AUSTIN GROUP, Columbus, Ohio

Founder, President, 2001 to 2005. Provided business advisory services to clients primarily within technology

industries. Services included business operations and financial management reviews, organizational

development, process improvement initiatives, standardization of policies and procedures.

• Advised large Midwest insurance company on software factory and offshore outsourcing approaches;

identifying risks and benefits; performing detailed competitive and market analysis.

• Advisor to Chief Operating Officer of Canadian venture capital funded company which developed IP

billing system; established software development methodology procedures, standardized testing

environment and process improvement initiatives for production operations.

• Redesigned organizational structure for company which grew from 25 to more than 500 employees;

established a formal intra-company communications plan and developed staff review procedures to

improve employee relations; company sold for $1 billion.

• Advisor to Founder and CEO of Internet based bookstore company; involved in several areas including

business model definition, capital restructuring, identifying new markets, reducing cost structure and

CLAREMONT TECHNOLOGY GROUP, INC, Columbus, Ohio

Senior Vice President, 1992 to 2000. Directed International Operations, Regional Operations, Internet and

Advanced Technology Practice, Delivery Operations, Quality Assurance and Risk Management for $75 million

software development company. Managed sales, delivery and profitability of offices in North America, Europe

and Australia. Held responsibility for more than 500 professionals.

• Reviewed and reorganized International Operations; closed selected unprofitable offices; consolidated

staff in regions and restructured remaining offices; led acquisitions in Montreal and Sydney to increase

local presence and drive both offices to profitability.

• Restructured the Health and Human Services Practice which developed and marketed childcare

management software; implemented sales management process, accountability standards and financial

controls, repositioned product and leveraged product development centers which improved sales from

$600,000 (with $400,000 operating loss) to $2 million (with $900,000 gross profit) within six months.

• Opened the U.S. Central Region, including the Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland offices; established

key accounts with Bank One, The Limited, American Electric Power, Nestle and Kroger; increased zero-

based region to $11 million in revenues within two years; Columbus office remained second largest office

in company for several years.

• Managed start-up of Internet and Advanced Technology Practice for Claremont; projects included

two of first eight Netscape Merchant Systems installed worldwide; developed company’s first

distributed-object system; G2 Research study listed Claremont as one of three worldwide leaders

among integrators of Internet/Intranet Technology

• Managed channel relationships with Silicon Graphics and Netscape to provide market with a complete

solution approach; represented company on speaking tour in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei and Seoul;

program resulted in several large domestic and international engagements.

• Directed international recruiting program, which secured more than 75 individuals from India and Ireland

at 30% less cost per recruit than United States recruits.

• Member of Executive Committee; established and enforced all operating policies and practices; involved

in all strategic planning, IPO, and merger and acquisition transactions.
