Role: Configuration Management - Build & Release Engineer

Responsibilities: Trained on core SCM / Build & Release concepts for 2

weeks at the CA Technologies' South San Francisco Office in California,

USA. Performing the B & R tasks in conjunction with the North American

counter parts, on the required Automation and Software Configuration

Management / Build & Release tasks for all the Patches and service packs

for the APM [Application Performance Management] suite of products.

Description: The APM product suite consists of 26 different

components of which 25 are developed using Java/ Windows and 1 in

Shell/Unix environment. The development team is spread across the globe

including cities in USA, UK, China and India. I am responsible for setting

up & trouble shooting the builds for every patch (on -demand) & service

pack (one for every quarter) builds. I am the key point of contact for all

the development engineering fraternity at our India Technology Centre for

the QA automation - SCM - Build and release related issues.

Build & Relese Engineering activities performed in detail :

ANT Scripting: ANT Scripting has been my major forte for all the Build &

Release automation needs. Right from using the inbuilt simple ANT tasks to

writing customized macros, I have used ANT extensively for all my tasks on

both Windows & Linux OS needs. Various automation tasks that I have

achieved using ANT are : 1. Creating a well defined and a streamlined

Software Build System that caters to the typical SCM needs of an SDLC 2.

Have also created end user specific web centered self serviced automation

systems using the combination of JSP+HTML pages for input capture from user

to a simple web application deployed on Apache Tomcat AppServer which

triggers an ANT based windows scheduled task in the backgroud to carry out

further processing. Revived various existing ANT build system frameworks to

meet the current project needs as per the suggestions from the QA & Dev

Teams.

Application Servers :

Experienced in the installation, configuration and application

deployment of various Application Servers [like Jboss, Apache Tomcat, IBM

Websphere, Oracle WebLogic] to create QA testing environemnts. Performed

these activities both manually and also in an automated fashion by writing

custom ANT scripts that consume the native App Servers ANT API tasks in

order to interect and work with the application server's processes like web

application deployment, start-up, shut-down, re-start etc.

Jenkins / Hudson:

Have used the Jenkins / Hudson

Continuous Integration tools [ both in standalone java archive application

and as an Servlet Container Deployment modes ] extensively for various

build and release automation needs by setting up / configuring dedicated

jobs that are extended using plugins for performing various automation

tasks as needed. Have set up the Master - Slave environments across various

operating systems as well. [Like 'Master' being on a Windows 2008 Server VM

and 'Slave' being a Linux VM, etc]. Very well equipped with backend

troubleshooting tasks like archiving the existing CI jobs, configuring

sequentail job triggers, results processing, manual reboots, etc

Team: Joined ORACLE Hyderabad on 2nd May-2013 as a part of the Oracle

EBS Quality and Release engineering Team, and have been contributing

successfully to the Release engineering needs for the Oracle EBS SCM / CRM

suite of products [ in conjunction with the US / CDC counter parts ] uptil

now very successfully.

Relese Engineering activities performed in detail :

Responsible for the regular build activities for the Oracle EBS

SCM / CRM suite of products like performing weekly code-pulls, assisting

Dev teams with ARU Patch related queries, taking care of in-house Release

team tools like ARU Patchset Sync up tool, Removable Checkins tool [ built

on Linux / Shell scripting ], working on Release bugs for Source Code

Control Areas, Define & maintaining Branching strategies, performing

Autobuild Upgrade testings [ Both at Cosolidated Apps level and at

individual Family pack level ] for the ongoing 12.2.5 RUP, working on the

Install Bugs logged during the Install tetsing with the corresponding

development team members.
