EXPERIENCE
David Oakey Designs, Lagrange, GA June 2009 - August 2009
Topic: Biomimetic Design
. Collaborated with an Architect and an Industrial Designer to tackle
contemporary problems, such as: storing and capturing solar energy,
sustainable building designs, and city layouts.
. Extensively studied the bio-mechanics, anatomy, and functions of
various biological systems. Developed and modeled sustainable designs
that ranged from the nano-scale (vibration energy via piezoelectric
hairs) to the macro scale (passively ventilated buildings).
Undergraduate Research, Georgia Institute of Technology August 2008 -
April 2009
Topic: Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanotubes (VACNTs) on Bulk Copper for
novel Thermal Interface Materials
. Conducted chemical synthesis and analytical research that contributed
to the first reproducible VACNT on bulk copper using a common thermal
CVD process. Research conducted included:
- CNT growth on Si and Cu substrates - CNT/TMS chemical
synthesis
- Cu and Si surface polishing - FTIR analysis
Publications:
. W. Lin, R. Olivares, Q. Liang, R. Zhang, K. Moon, and C.P. Wong,
59th ECTC, 2009.
Materials Design, Georgia Institute of Technology September 2007 -
April 2008
Topic: Biomineralization of Structured Nano-Ceramics
. Synthesized and purified recombinant silaffins, which were used to
precipitate structured nano-ceramics (BaTiO3, FeO, and GeO2) at
ambient temperatures. Research conducted included:
- E-coli transformation and growth - SDS-PAGE assays
- Cation exchange purification
Building New Hope, Camoapa, Nicaragua June 2005 - August 2005
. Helped provide aid to children (7-11 yrs old) from distraught and
broken families.
. Planned recreational and educational activities, tutored with
homework, and helped cultivate a farm.
EDUCATION
Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA
