Summary:
I'm an experienced technical writer with 20+ years of documentation and QA
experience on a wide variety of platforms and for an even wider base of
clients. I'm experienced in front-end and user-centric documentation,
Quality Assurance testing, procedural documentation, online help, and a
variety of proprietary and OTC software.
To properly create documentation for my audience I have learned to drive a
forklift at Gerstenslager's railway off-load. I learned how to weld a 3-ton
steel ring used in their acid baths for the steel that was molded into
Ford, Chevy, Fiat, Toyota and other automotive service. They needed to
comply with ISO9000 or lose most of the companies they worked with. I took
job descriptions that were typed on a manual typewriter from the 1940's
through the 1980s and sorted, updated, deleted and created usable training
manuals. They were just getting PCs in their operation and automating some
of the more hazardous jobs. I had to make sure that their training manuals
were clear and at a level that could reach each and every employee could
understand each aspect of their assigned job (there were some employees
that I trained where there was the grandfather, the father, the son and the
grandson all currently employed and working jobs that were handed down from
one generation to the next). I also created a history of the company from a
century of backlogged user manuals and job descriptions that they wanted
saved to symbolize the company's history.
I have had to install, test and tear down Diebold ATMs, bank drive-through
and what is now called "Red Box" movie rental kiosks, and worked side by
side with call center operators to refine and smooth out the bumps during
the deregulation of northeast power companies.
Although I have taken time off to stay at home with my daughter during her
high school years and her first year of college, I have tried to keep up
with the constantly changing world my chosen profession throws at me. I
adapt quickly to new situations and I welcome the challenge of returning to
a full-time position.
