PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Parata Systems, Durham, North Carolina 2009-Current

Senior Software QA Manager

Greatly improved quality, and reliability of Parata platforms. Reduced customer complaints and

defects found by an average of 21%. Created visibility of quality improvement direction to

executives, by using MS SharePoint to showcase performance, and reliability of all products.

Embraced and thrived in a very dynamic and extremely demanding software engineering and

aggressive schedules. Improved organization to support multiple customer validations, involving

hardware, peripherals, and software in various configurations.

Defined requirements to enhance existing software tools, to aid testcase automation. Created and

enforced strict coding standards for QuickTestPro scripting language. Defined architecture in

Quality Center to enable team to prepare detailed test plans and testcases, map testcases to

requirements, and correlate tests to configurations. This infrastructure also enabled team to

produce uniformly consistent test reports. Created templates for generating defect tracking

Itron, Inc., Raleigh, North Carolina 2008-2009

Lead Automation Engineer

Developed an integrated C# based front-end UI to drive test configuration, test execution, test

results, and test reporting. Automation framework allowed QA engineers to build test profiles,

build test configurations, schedule testcase execution, create custom testcases for customers, view

and edit test results, and use the query interface to generate comprehensive test reports from SQL

2005 database.

Code development included utilizing .NET Framework 3.5 libraries, WSDL code for

webservices, third party tools such as SharpSSH, Ionic.Utils.Zip, and TCL/Expect to execute

console commands, Oracle scripts to extract information and statistics from application DB, and

customer DB. Implemented coding standards, and ensure company-wide adaptation of

automation framework. Utilized peripheral tools like PLSQL Developer for Oracle 10.2.0.3,

sysinternals, and Cygwin. Utilized Worksoft Certify to automate UI testcases.

HingeFire, Inc., Cary, North Carolina 2007– 2008

CTO/Software Architect/Director of QA

Drove the direction of HingeFire products to meet future business requirements. Strategically

planned development of applications for the investment community. Included data security,

aligning features with revenue models, and maintaining integrity of the products. Recommended

make/buy decisions. Managed QA and development contractors.

Led Implementation effort, including coding new features for the client application as well as

improvements to existing features, based on user feedback. Successfully developed and released

2 major releases and 2 minor releases of the .NET C# based client application.

Conceptualized, designed, and developed SQL Database class libraries for archival and retrieval

of daily data and historical market data. Created interface for thin client to support performance

Cisco Systems, RTP, North Carolina 1996 – 2007

Project Manager/Technical Lead

In various project leadership roles at Cisco Systems, managed medium sized groups for 11 years

across multiple functional/technological teams, across multiple geographical locations. Authored

and published 22 test plans and strategies. Presented numerous summaries, and technical topics at

seminars and training sessions.

Designed, and implemented many automation frameworks in various environments including

Windows GUI applications, Web based applications, UNIX/CLI based network devices, and

appliances (Security Managers, Call Agents etc.). Used scripting languages TCL/Expect, Perl,

and Silk Segue to manage test beds, expedite testing, and archive results.

Provided security solution testing support to many Cisco enterprise customers, including AT&T,

HSBC, Nexus IS, and Wal-Mart. Established and maintained strategic vendor relationships with

Spirent, IXIA, Imperfect Networks, and VirtuTech to mitigate the risks of integrating their

products into the solution. Similarly led a cable solution team to enable cable service providers

such as TWC, Cablevision, Comcast, and Cox, to deploy MGCP based VoIP solution.

Provided project leadership and automation scripting support to complete testing for DOCSIS 1.1

and Packetcable certification efforts of Cisco headend routers (uBR7246 and uBR10000), and

Cisco cable modems (uBR925, CVA).

Provided technical leadership for building and testing the Redhat Linux based router. Installed

Linux drivers, and configured IOS networking features such as NAT, IPSec, VPN, Filtering,

DHCP, Firewall, Bridging, and routing. Mentored college interns on general and specific Linux
