MAXIM Integrated Products (Dallas Semiconductor -> MAXIM)
Managing Director – March 1999 to December 2009
General Manager (GM) with profit & loss (P&L) responsibility for multiple business units (BUs). Management
responsibilities included product development, engineering, marketing, applications and inside sales within a product
organization structured environment. GM role grew from a single $32M BU with 32 people in 2001 to three product
businesses with $122M+ in revenue and 90+ people in 2007.
- Managing Director, Storage RTC/TCXO BU – February 2007 to December 2009
GM of a diverse $88M business unit with the product responsibility for proprietary high-speed SAS/SATA and
TCXO/RTC products utilized in the consumer, data storage and communications markets. As P&L manager grew
revenue from $61M to $88M and achieved the number two position in the storage SAS/SATA expander market with
leading 65nm high speed SERDES technology. Led the acquisition of Vitesse Data Storage products division.
- Managing Director, High Speed Signal Processing BU – August 2006 to May 2007
As GM of the high-speed ADC/DAC converter and RF signal conditioning product line, formulated and executed a
plan to set the course for this distressed BU. On completion of profitability analysis, assessment of competitive
landscape, resource opportunity cost and litigation risk, the assets of this business were re-allocated within the
company. Negotiated the business settlement of litigation between ADI and MAXIM regarding relevant technology.
- Managing Director, Battery and Thermal BU – April 2001 to September 2007
As P&L manager, doubled revenues of one of Dallas Semiconductor’s most profitable business units. This $61M
organization provided proprietary mixed-signal integrated circuits for the thermal instrumentation and battery
management markets worldwide. This business merged as a result of a personally initiated consolidation of Maxim
business units in 2007.
- Product Development Manager (Dallas Semi title), Battery and Thermal BU – March 1999 to March 2001
Responsible for the definition, design and customer applications support of the battery management product line.
Direct reports included product development, design engineering and customer applications groups. Personally
defined the DS2760: Electronic Products Product of the Year 2000
Texas Instruments
- Business Development Manager, Advanced Analog Products BU - September 1998 to January 1999
Facilitated a Market Assessment Process (MAP) justifying the economic viability of a battery business entity. Eight
months following completion, as a fulfillment of the MAP, TI purchased the Unitrode/Benchmarq Corporation.
Benchmarq Microelectronics (startup to IPO -> Unitrode Corp -> Texas Instruments)
- Director of Product Development: December 1996 to July 1998
Defined industry leading, low-power, mixed-signal integrated circuits for the battery management market. Organized
and managed a team of development and firmware engineers tasked with translating sales, marketing and
customer inputs into product specifications for an emerging market. Defined the bq2000: EDN Innovation of the
Year 1998.
- Staff Design Engineer - January 1990 to December 1996
As a team member, contributed to all IC designs from company inception to IPO. Sole contributions included the
definition and design of seven unique mixed-signal die types. Architected the proprietary microprocessor utilized in
all Benchmarq battery capacity monitoring devices.
SRX (startup)
- IC Design Engineer: April 1987 to January 1990
As sole contributor, completed the definition and design of a custom, single chip digital telephone. This device was
utilized in SRX’s highest volume product for more than 5 years.
HYCOM (startup - > Sharp Digital Information Products)
- VLSI Design Engineer: June 1983 to March 1987
Led a design team in the development of integrated CMOS analog front end products for data MODEM applications.
