. Using sophisticated abbreviation software, I do real-time remote
transcription (receiving audio only) for universities, colleges, and
high schools throughout the United States (lecture speeds vary from
140-200wpm)
. Integral skills include punctuality, an ability to work well under
significant pressure, an ability to work independently, a strong grasp
of grammar and spelling, and quick and accurate typing
. Due to the nature of long distance wireless linking, technological
issues can be expected; problem solving with regards to the
technology, misunderstandings, or inadequate audio feeds is constantly
required
. Transcribing experience includes Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology,
Physics, General Biology, College Algebra, Marine Biology, Emergency
Disaster Response, plus a variety of Arts and Humanities courses
(History, Sociology, Anthropology, English, Women's Studies, etc.)

Disability Service's office: classes include any credit or non-credit
courses that PCC offers
. To achieve high quality meaning-for-meaning transcripts, advanced
listening, writing, thinking, and impromptu problem solving skills are
required
. On-site presence means continuous communication will be required to
work smoothly with instructors, students, and co-workers; transcribers
must be comfortable in new settings and working with people coming
from all backgrounds as most people are new to accommodation services
. 20-30 hours/week worked during the school year, with a focus on
science heavy courses

Contract Transcriber Video Production Coordinator:

. Contracts have included post-production video captioning for PCC's
Production Department, transcribing interviews for a PhD candidate's
thesis, legal and conflict resolution meetings between staff and
students, and an Intel technology conference
. Captioning videos requires subject specific research to learn new
terminology as well as nationally standardized media transcript
formatting styles
