MAJOR PROGRAMS MANAGED
Hospital Corpsman Operational Medicine and Basic Trauma Course Director
1. A comprehensive program instructing the Navy Hospital corpsman on the basics of trauma
and reasoning behind basic medical decisions.
2. Developed as a 12 part curriculum with weekly lectures and written as well as performance
tests to tie in principles.
Child Developmental Center Medical Director/ Special Needs Evaluation Review Team
1. Developed programs including healthcare screening, immunizations and physical
qualification/limitation forms.
2. This resulted in the efficient and up to date management of 1900+ children’s health records.
3. Initiated a medication administration program for the 625+ lay child-care workers, without 1
medication incident or error in 5 years.
4. Instituted child and family care lectures for the staff on subjects ranging from administering
medications to infants, the diabetic child, the asthmatic child, and how to manage “field-trips”
with medical safety.
5. As the Medical Director for the Child Development Center and the Special Needs Evaluation
Review Team, evaluates and coordinates the provision of service to 1400 special needs children.
Special Forces Clinical Training Program Director (SFCOT)
1. An intensive post 18 Delta (Special Forces Medical Sergeants) curriculum with the primary
goal to develop and execute institutional enlisted independent medical training for Army Special
Force Medical Sergeants and Navy Seals. (Special Forces Medical Sergeants are considered to
be the finest first-response/trauma medical technicians in the world. Though they're primarily
trained with an emphasis on trauma medicine, they also have a working knowledge of dentistry,
veterinary care, public sanitation, water quality and optometry.)
1. The secondary goal was to develop and execute institutional medical training for Army,
Navy, and Air Force Special Operations personnel.
2. To produce uniformly trained, interoperable, joint service Combat Trauma Medics
certified in civilian medical care systems as registered EMT-Paramedics.
3. The Independent Operationally Tasked medics/corpsmen were drawn from:

• 18D (Special Forces Medical Sergeants) candidates
• 75th Army Ranger Regiment
• 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne)

4. Designed to meet the combat commander’s operational (wartime) requirements

9. The preceptor/providers participating had significant (wartime) operational experience,
and provided lectures and resource material on operational, humanitarian and 3rd world
medicine.
EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY PA PRECEPTOR
1. Precepted 56 PA students, for 6 weeks at a time.
2. Covered pediatric growth and development, acute and chronic care, and case
management of pediatrics.

CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL AND NUCLEAR WARFARE LECTURER
1. Developed and initiated a week long course to Doctors, Nurses, and Medics in Chemical,
Nuclear and Biological warfare and care of casualties.

ASTHMA PROGRAM LEADER
1. Program Manager Asthma Program. Evaluated and identified over 800 asthma patients.
Initiated Clinical Practice Guidelines, developed protocols and documentation standards.
The comparative benchmark was the HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data
and Information Set) 90th percentile level. Diabetes and asthma are disease
states targeted for improvement within Naval Medicine and are currently
being championed by Naval Medicine’s Primary Care Advisory Board and
the Evidence Based Healthcare Advisory Board. This Program was
consistently maintained above the 90%.
NURSE OF THE DECK (HOUSE SUPERVISOR)
Directs, through shift charge nurses, activities of nursing staff. Responsible for the nursing care
of the entire hospital ; emergency, surgery, ICU, CCU, PACU, L&D, orthopedics, NICU as a
relief supervisor. Since commission as a Naval Officer, through 2006.
