Education:
. South Dakota State University, MS in Civil Engineering
(structural/geotechnical emphasis), December 2010
. South Dakota State University, BS in Civil Engineering, May 2009
Licensure - Engineer in Training, July 2009 (E-10479)
Work Experience:
. 2009-Present Graduate Researcher South Dakota
State University
Primary graduate researcher on one of a series of research projects
for Nucor Corporation. Worked as part of a team of professors,
professional engineers, and graduate students. Designed
instrumentation plan, fabricated, and load tested fifteen concrete
load distribution members (LDM's). Used Microsoft excel, publisher,
word, and AutoCAD to produce professional reports to project sponsor
Nucor Corporation. Collected strain gauge, load cell, and LVDT data
using an electronic data acquisition system. Used data to perform
structural analysis on LDM's using the Strut-and-Tie Method. From
Strut-and-Tie analysis, design recommendations were formulated for
concrete LDM's.
. 2008-2009 Undergraduate Research Assistant South Dakota
State University
Assisted multiple structural graduate students with instrumentation
and construction of full scale tests. Performed concrete and cold
formed steel (CFS) material testing. Calibrated strain gauges, LVDT's
and load cells as preparation for destructive testing. Ran controls
for 328 kip actuator during testing. Marked cracking pattern on a
current bridge deck for the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
Used cracking pattern to document cracking progression for an ongoing
research project.
. 2007-2008 Surveying Technician I&S Group -
Mankato, MN
Performed surveying duties assigned by Licensed Land Surveyor. Ran
robotic total station and global positioning system on a daily basis.
In second summer of work, given crew chief responsibilities leading a
small surveying crew. Performed residential and rural boundary
surveys. Construction staking, topographical surveys, level loops,
and measure downs were also performed on a weekly basis. In two
summers of work, developed valuable surveying and construction
knowledge.
