SUMMARY OF SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

. Basic understanding of stress response and methods to ensure personal

well being

. Understanding of body substance isolation and basic medical-legal

principles

. Assess situations to ensure safety of scene, mechanism of injury or

nature of illness, total number of patients, and request help if needed

. Create safe traffic environment or redirect traffic for protection of

injured and those assisting in caring for injured patient

. Render emergency medical and/or trauma care to adults, children, and

infants including opening and maintain airway, ventilating patients,

administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including use of automated

external defibrillators

. Provide pre-hospital emergency medical care of simple and multiple system

trauma including controlling hemorrhage, treatment of shock, bandaging

wounds, immobilizing painful, swollen, or deformed extremities, neck, or

spine

. Provide emergency medical care to assist in emergency childbirth, manage

general medical complaints of altered mental status, respiratory,

cardiac, diabetic, allergic reaction, seizures, poisoning behavioral

emergencies, environmental emergencies, and psychological crises

. Search for medical identification emblems as a guide to appropriate

emergency medical care

. Assist patients with prescribed medications, including sublingual

nitroglycerin, epinephrine injectors, and hand held aerosol inhalers

. Administer oxygen, oral glucose, and activated charcoal

. Assist with lifting and carrying patients out of ambulance and into

receiving medical facility

. Constantly assess patients enroute to emergency facility, administering

additional care as indicated or directed by medical control

. Report verbally and in writing, observation and emergency care of patient

at emergency scene and in transit, to receiving medical facility staff

for purposes of records and diagnostics

. Restock and replace used linens, blankets, and other supplies and clean

all equipment according to disinfecting procedures

. Carefully inspect all equipment to ensure preparedness for next run
