****-******* ******, *********
Class B Hot Shot driving job, delivering equipment to mining
companies and refineries located throughout the United States
and Canada.
2002-2013 Driver, B-Line Express Courier Service, Inc. Class B CDL
Worked as an independent contractor for 3 years then as a company
employed for 8 years delivering freight and food in the
Denver Metro area, and to outlying areas including Arizona,
Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, New Mexico, Nebraska, North and South
Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. Equipment used: 24 foot
refrigerated and dry diesel trucks, 14 & 12 foot refrigerated
diesel trucks, and refrigerated vans.
1999-2007 Owner and General Manager, AccuMail, Inc.
AccuMail provided graphic design, electronic printing and mail
services to retail businesses. Principle responsibilities
involve sales, graphic design, printing production, and mail
preparation for Bar-coded Standard and 1st Class, automation
compatible mail. Contact was made to businesses promoting my
services helping companies to communicate through direct mail
to their customers or to prospective customers promoting
their services and promotional incentives.
This was a home based business, and after 8
years the market had changed to very sophisticated, high cost
electronic printing equipment. I would have had to invest in
such equipment if this business was to survive and I chose to
close the business rather than go into debt in an industry
that was declining due to decreased direct mail volume.
2000-2002 Co-owner and President, Wheels America Advertising, Rocky
Mountain Franchise
This company was the Colorado franchise for the national
franchise network of Wheels America Advertising. Wheels
America was a back lighted mobile billboard advertising media
involved in business promotion for national and local
companies, such as Einstein Bagels, Eddie Bowers, The Reserve
Fund, The Denver Business Journal, and Fujitsu.
My principle responsibilities were in marketing and
developing our website showcasing advertising jobs our
company had completed and general information regarding the
media. And after the sale was complete, my duties included
business operations, the establishment of advertising routes,
human resources, employee schedules, and general business
operations.
After 9-11, this type of advertising was completely wiped out
and one-by-one our franchises nationwide started closing down
their business due to lack of business, and our company was
not excluded from this loss. We did however, walk away from
this business owing no one, all debts were paid in full.
1979-1999 Owner and General Manager, Express Press, Inc./Printing &
Mailing
I started this company in December of 1979, operating one
press, a folder, a plate maker, and a paper cutter in a
retail space of 360 sq. ft. By 1995 it had grown to over one
million in sales with 17 full-time employees in a warehouse-
office location with 7200 sq. ft. In 1981 we added mail
services to our product line, which grew to become our niche
area, with a production of 2 million pieces of mail processed
annually. In 1998 we were recognized by the Denver Business
Journal as one of the top 25 mail processing firms in the
Denver area.
All sales initially were my responsibility, growing the
company from $0 to $40,000/month, and after the addition of
four salespeople; the company grew to over $1,000,000 dollars
annually. We conducted sales training, sent employees to Dale
Carnegie Sales Training, and produced direct mail promotional
materials and company brochures promoting our printing and
mail services.
For 20 years I was focused on all aspects of the business,
including: sales and sales management, human resources,
finance, manufacturing operations, training, company manuals,
scheduling, production, business planning, and TQM quality
control procedures based upon the Deming method. I understand
the importance of highly trained people, well-maintained
equipment, great customer service, on-time delivery, and a
quality product, all which are necessary for the success of
any business operation.
In 1999 I sold the business.
1977-1979 Sales Representative, Inland Steel--Milcor Building Products
Division
Traveled from Montana to El Paso and from Denver to Salt Lake
City promoting building products through seminars to
architects, and one-on-one sales to building contractors, and
retail merchandisers. The company's major products were
structural steel studs, and metal lath products.
Much of the time was spent promoting the structural steel
aspects of our steel studs to architects through seminars and
personal contact. The balance of my time was spent contacting
contractors and retail establishments, bidding on and selling
metal products.
1973-1977 Sales Representative, American Excelsior Company
Traveled northern Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and North and
South Dakota selling a multitude of products. The major
products lines sold were, oil exploration products, urethane
foam, swamp cooler accessories, packaging materials, and
floor coverings.
1971-1973 U.S. Army Infantry Officer
As an Infantry Lieutenant I acted as a company platoon
leader, company motor pool maintenance officer, and assistant
Brigade intelligence-operations officer while stationed in
the US and overseas.
v EDUCATION
Bachelor of Business Degree, Major in Economics with a minor
in Business, from
Western Illinois University.
Dale Carnegie, "Leadership Training for Managers."
Infantry Officer's Candidate School Ft. Benning, GA
v VOLUNTEER
1999-Present Bible Study Leader, Youth for Christ, Mount View Youth
Detention Center-Denver
As a volunteer, I spend time presenting the Gospel to
troubled youth, most of which are a product of a
dysfunctional family, usually where the Dad is no where to be
found. For the majority, they are dejected, angry, and
hopeless with little guidance in how to relate to life. There
is a lot of gang membership, violence, hatred, drug and
alcohol addiction, and un-wed pregnancy among these young men
ages 12-18.
I attempt to give them hope by promoting a God who loves them
and has a wonderful plan for their life if they will only
believe and trust Him. I try to show them that the life that
they are now living, is bringing them consequences that
v PERSONALITY
Cooperate with others to get the job done, am a team player
but focused and when necessary, able to operate alone; also
practical, precise, and have good follow through.
Strongly task oriented, leading by setting the example with
the ability to train and check for compliance with
directions. Grounded in a realistic approach to life, a
conventional perspective, preferring to work with reliable
procedures, rather than waste time attempting to reinvent the
wheel. Good at carrying out established procedures, ability
to master a work process and remain on course with it, rather
than succumb to distractions or tangents.
I prefer variety and working with smaller groups, teaching,
guiding and directing vs. presentations to larger groups. I
am tough minded, good at making objective decisions and like
to keep things moving; also logical and enjoy being accurate,
helpful, organized, and prepared without being a high-risk
taker.
