To whom it may concerns:
First of all, please allow me to describe myself for a moment.
I have been a architectural model maker for about 12 years in New York City from 1996 to 2008. My
wife and myself decide to come back to U.S. from Hong Kong to stay close to our family in San Francisco.
I first learn my trade as a helper in architectural model shop in New York. In Which I learn to make
architectural model from the old way,(which is bench sew to cut and #11 and #12 exacto knife to score.)
I have used material GP Acrylic plastic, wood, forms, PVC, Styrene.
Secondly, As for my experienceare as follow.
AutoCad12 to AutoCAD 2007: I used it mostly for prepare cutting file to scale on Laser.
Rhino: Did some work on for laser cut in 2006, when they first introduce to architects firm (Like K.P.F )
but I am not very good at it, It is because AutoCad and Micro station was the main working
platform for most of the architects in New York at that time. I am sure I can handle it.
Sketchup: I know how to use it, but it was popular for architectural model making, back in 2008.
Laser- Cutting( Universal Lasers) :I have work with model VLS6.6 for more than 8 years and model
iLS 12.75 for about 2 years. Mostly with Autocad file.
CNC Machine: None.
3D printing: I use Zprinter 650 and soildwork 2007 with .stl file conversion. I was the first architect
model maker using Zcorp printer on a competition model with tradition
methods and win the ABG design Competition for Mr. Rodney Leon in 2007.
(African Burial Ground In NEW YORK).
Woodworking: Yes
Spray- Painting: A Must. I believe Painting jobs is one of the task, that can kill a project or Save a project.
You can get by a project with fair model making skill with a good paint Job,but you can
never get by a project with a very good model making skill with a fair paint job.
Standard Model Making tools: Yes . from reading blue print to complete the project.
Coordinating and organizing activities: Yes, I use to teach and train students under New York labors
Training guideline and run a crew of 3 to 5 people to complete a
Projects.
Keep the shop clean and organized: Yes, I Know how, but I use to have a general helper to do the
cleaning tasks.
Model Design: yes, a good model maker will know how to present and use a good mediums and
methods of choices for the architects to know, what I am talking about. From simple to
complex projects.
Scheduling people: Also a must, working with architects deadline and change order in design. I have
Finished most of the projects in about 2 to 4 weeks. But I have also complete
Projects within 3 days to half a years.
Managing people: It wasn’t much managing skills needed in this line of work, I like to see my co-work
As friends. The most important parts for me is to know WHO can DO What. And when
Time come, I will ask myself, can I finished the project ? or have ways to complete it.
Meeting production budgets: I have never run over a budget on any project, due to the fact
Architectural Model Making is very unique task. Sometimes Architects
firms hiring us is not because they know we have the lowest bids, but most
of the time we have to let them know, we can delivery, if all hell break lose.
And this come with a premium, that is priceless for them.
Estimating models: I have work and estimating projects from $5,000.00 to $150,000.00
Writing and editing (scope of work): It was the first thing, I learned on my first 1 on 1 with the architect
And Yes I know how.
Following Instructions: Yes, I can follow instructions. If I don’t than how can I expect the others to listen
to me, when I lead them.
Leading others to achieve quality results on budget: It is because I take pride in all the projects I work on,
Like an artist to theirs works. To me it is not just a
Job.
My believe is:
If you have a vision, than you can draw it and if you can drew it than I can make a model out of it.
