years in the first twelve months of team inception.
• Lead a successful multi-organization, multi-discipline effort to migrate an entire
production Data Center; consisting of 500+ Windows servers and 300+ UNIX servers, to
a new physical location. Responsibilities included coordinating the efforts of the team to
modify IP addressing schema, backup and storage connectivity, and the racking and
cabling activities, while providing absolutely no impact to business activities in less than

current standards to provide a consistent load throughout the environment in all three
Data Centers.
Professional Experience
Project Lead / Client Server Engineer IV – Distributed Systems Design and Engineering
June 2012-June 2013
BB&T – Wilson, NC
I was selected to assume Lead Solutions Design Role for the purposes of upgrading all Wintel
Servers in both our Data Centers and all regional subsidiary locations. I am tasked to gather
information, design solution and road-map to up-lift all 1750+ Windows 2003 servers, physical
and virtual, to our current standard of Windows 2008 R2 and associated hosted applications,
specifically addressing SQL servers not compliant with current standards. This will required me
to create and lead a cross-functional team with representative subject matter experts from each
silo of the Engineering Department and liaise with each Line of Business that has an application
identified as being hosted on these servers. My overall responsibility will be the successful uplift
of all servers without impact to day to day business, mitigate any deficiency related to
compliance to standards, attempt to virtualize any physical server still existing and regularly
report status to senior management.
Client Server Manager - UNIX Engineering
August 2008 – June 2012
BB&T – Wilson, NC
I was hand-picked by Senior Leadership to build a team of highly skilled engineers to totally
redesign our methods for deploying UNIX Systems. Responsible for gathering the requirements
from the various clients, both internal and external, for the purposes of building UNIX servers,
setting the standards by which all future builds are designed, architecting and implementing
solutions as needed and maintaining the stability of the UNIX Infrastructure Environment and
applications for Branch Banking and Trust Co. Represented operating systems include Red Hat
Linux on ESX, Red Hat zLinuz on ZOS, and AIX on pSeries. Focus has been on a “Virtualize
First” strategy. This team was also responsible for all Tier IV support issues responsible for
resolving customer impacting issues within 4 hours or less, providing Triage and Root Cause
Analysis of outages and both the workaround and long term solutions to prevent re-occurrence.
• Leveraged IBM Power 7 technology for AIX to allow us to migrate production workloads
from obsolete hardware and to grow horizontally in an environment that provides for
capacity on demand to meet real time needs and allow for serious scalability. Using this
technology, cost avoidance has exceeded $2.5M and 5 year savings expectations
exceeded $14M and cut unplanned outages by 50%.
• Leveraged the Enterprise Virtualization Strategy to allow for Provisioning versus
Procurement. Our processes and design consideration always lean towards virtualization
unless a compelling technology or business need dictates otherwise. Our group hit >95%
of virtualization of RedHat and AIX deployments last year and we continue to leverage
this strategy. Improvements in licensing and consolidation of workloads on homogenous
hardware and infrastructure allowing growth with minimal additional costs. This also
allowed us to rapidly deploy new systems in the event of critical outages.
• Consolidation of the RedHat Linux virtual instances hosted in the ESX VMWare farms
created the opportunity for considerable savings in the licensing costs. The consolidation
of these virtual instances represented an immediate savings of approximately $925K in
licensing costs versus our previous way of licensing.
• Increased Speed to Market for Enterprise Risk Management by building servers in a very
short turnaround to mitigate a recently discovered risk. A new space for the workloads
was created and deployed in a week. Efficiency gains of 97% were realized with
processing time falling from 14 hours down to 25 minutes.
• Devised plans to evergreen existing Power 4 and 5 IBM servers to the Power 7 platform.
Moving 42 servers meeting these criteria would represent a potential savings of $25K in
support costs alone over five years and removed unsupportable hardware from the
production environment.
• Devised plans to consolidate SAS BI infrastructure to migrate from numerous Windows
and UNIX platforms to a homogenous Power 7 UNIX platform. Migrating these
workloads would represent potential savings of $4.5M over five years and provide High
Availability infrastructure.
• Developed, with my team, an emergency migration process for pulling a running
workload from a legacy Power 4/5 server and migrate it to a Power 7 server, including
updating firmware and application. In one situation alone this process prevented a Line of
Business from having to spend $1.1M in licensing fees to recover from a production
outage. This process has been uses numerous times in our current environment for
numerous critical situations.
Client Server Engineer III - Distributed Systems Engineering
October 2003 – August 2008
BB&T – Wilson, NC
Under limited supervision, participated as a highly skilled member on a team of IT Client/Server
Engineers, providing technical expertise for the designing, planning, testing and implementation
phases of Client/Server projects as assigned by the Client/Server Management. Specifically,

• Participated in Critical Support Action Teams for all Lines of Business, supporting the
server infrastructure that hosted a myriad of applications including SAS, Oracle, DB2,
WebSphere, as well as a larger number of business specific applications. Windows
Servers numbering in the +3000 range and UNIX servers just shy of 1000 total.
• Represented the Distributed Systems Support department in Daily Operational briefings,
Change Control meetings, Audit reviews, as well as the Technology Review Council.
• Served as Senior Technical Liaison representing the Information Technology Engineering
department on all Projects that required Server Hosting activities.
• Served as Project Manager for all initiatives originating inside Distributed Systems
Department.
• Maintained all Internal Control Records for Distributed Systems Engineering and
Operations department for the purposes of being compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPPA,
