The Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation (SAF), a national 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to protecting America’s hunters, anglers, and trappers, seeks an experienced attorney to head our new litigation department and advocate for American sportsmen and -women in federal and state courts throughout the nation. This is an exciting time at SAF, and this position will be central to our continued growth and expanded advocacy model. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic individual with experience in direct litigation, advocacy, nonprofit leadership, and wildlife law who is looking for an opportunity to build something meaningful and is personally driven to make a lasting difference.

Main duties:

· Identify opportunities to advance SAF mission through legal process, activity, and planning.

· Perform research, analysis, and drafting of legal briefs, memoranda, and other documents in support of SAF’s litigation activities.

· Develop detailed strategy to implement proactive litigation activities that are both offensive and defensive in posture.

· Build relationships with wildlife law and environmental law experts.

· Coordinate with SAF government affairs and communications divisions on communication efforts.

· Perform additional duties, including special research projects, public speaking events, fundraising activities, and general assistance to SAF staff, as may be assigned or modified by the Vice President of Government Affairs

Scope: Works primarily with and reports to the Vice President of Government Affairs.

Essential qualities, qualifications, and skills desired:

· At least five years’ experience as a wildlife law or environmental law attorney.

· Experience litigating under state and/or federal administrative procedures acts.

· Experience working with government agencies.

· Reviewing/Analyzing regulatory filings; meeting deadlines.

· Experience in courtroom procedures, including appellate-level activities.

· Knowledge of fish and wildlife management theory and principles.

· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

· Background in leading litigation projects and working collaboratively within an organization.

· Member in good standing of at least one state bar.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Supervisory/management experience with litigation projects.

· Direct litigation experience across multiple states and federal system.

· State fish and wildlife agency experience.

Salary Range and Benefits: $125,000-$140,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid time off, comprehensive health, life and disability insurance, a 403(b) savings plan, and others.
