MEDICAL ASSISTANT – Mobile Unit

Full-time

Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus

Coastal Horizons Center is expanding services with two mobile care units providing outpatient mental health, substance use disorder, and select primary care services to individuals in underserved areas. The mobile units will serve Bladen, Brunswick and Columbus counties. The mobile unit Medical Assistant will provide medical services to individuals with substance use and/or mental health disorders. The medical assistant will interview clients and/or significant others to acquire medical history and health assessment, providing appropriate care either through intervention or referral.

Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

Assists with patient flow and monitors activity in the mobile clinic

Coordinates all mobile clinic services to appropriate providers, with assistance from using telehealth technology

Works with mobile clinic coordinator to ensure delivery of services for individuals

Manages medical records for clients

Required to provide client assessments to determine the most appropriate action for intervention, which may range from referral to the program physician to providing treatment, within the limits of her/his certifications, via standing order.

Assists clients in applying for and navigating patient assistance programs.

Required to document pertinent client information and notify the psychiatrist and mobile clinic coordinator of any discrepancies of local, state and federal regulations.

Provide clinical education and training to staff, families and client concerning psychotropic medications and other health issues.

Ensures standards of quality delivery of medical services and infection control.

Coordinates and assists with urine and saliva drug testing; collects specimens for laboratory shipment, conducts in-house drug testing, maintains and monitors a monthly schedule for drug screen collection

Assists clients in accessing pharmaceutical care charity programs, when applicable.

Is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and exposed to hazards such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation and may require the employee to work in close quarters.

May be exposed to human body fluids and is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens.

Assist Mobile Care Unit Driver and team with clinic setup and breakdown

Coordinate with Mobile Care Unit Driver on mechanical needs

Required Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in creating and developing relationships with community partners, with leadership from mobile clinic coordinator

Must be organized and feel comfortable with use of technology

Must be reliable and capable of working independently

Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and skills to adapt to changes in schedule

Education and Experience:

Graduate from an accredited school, with at least an Associates Degree in Applied Science, and/or Medical Assistant Certification, with two years of progressive experience working with the substance use and/or mental health clients and their human services needs;

OR

An equivalent combination education and experience.

Salary Range: Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Compensation is $45,000 USD to $50,000 USD
