Summary/Objective

The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician is responsible for processing of all patient records, filing, scanning, and indexing of records. The HIM Technician supports the department by retrieval of medical records, determination of destruction date, and release of information. Reacts well under pressure and treats others with respect. Identifies problems and resolves them in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully and develops alternative solutions. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and looks for ways to improve and promote quality.

Essential Functions

Review patient records for timeliness, completeness, accuracy and appropriateness of data

Organize and maintain data by ensuring that it maintains its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in paper files and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

Maintain confidentiality of patients’ records and manage EMR, securing the privacy of information while backing up contents and creating reports

Retrieve patient medical records for physicians, technicians, or other medical personnel

Release information to persons or agencies according to regulations

Plan, develop, maintain, or operate a variety of health record systems or storage and retrieval systems to collect, classify, store, or analyze information

Qualifications

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Understanding of EMR management.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Required Education and Experience

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook)

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience with EMR applications, preferably EPIC
