Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Support Service Worker for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton, Illinois to perform simple and routine tasks in various areas of the Dietary Services. Assists with preparation and serving of food items for the patients; performs cleaning and maintenance work in the food service area. Serves or dishes prepared food by established quantity size onto trays. Lifts and carries food items.

Job Responsibilities

1. Performs simple and routine tasks in various areas of the Dietary Services.

2. Serves or dishes prepared food by established quantity size onto trays following menu for patient.

3. Performs routine food service tasks in the kitchen.

4. Lifts and carries food items from carts to freezer, from freezer to shelving and from preparation area to carts for transportation to other work areas and cases of food supplies weighing up to 100lbs with assistance.

5. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of High School supplemented by six (6) months experience in the support service functional area to which assigned.

Conditions of Employment

1. Per P.A. 098-0566, requires the ability to complete a food handling course and obtain a Food Handlers certification within 30 days of employment.

2. Requires the ability to perform heavy physical work, lifting and pushing up to 100lbs. with assistance.

3. Requires the ability to stand for an extended period of time.

4. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

5. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

6. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
