Job Description

Position Summary:

Performs selected patient treatments under the general supervision of the physical therapists, supervisor or director. Is responsible for the overall direction, utilization, supervision, instruction and evaluation of supportive staff, volunteers and students utilized in the facility. Prepares patients and equipment for treatment, helps perform the housekeeping duties of the facility, performs other diverse duties as requested or required. Position is short-term or intermittent to fill a need for long-term PTO or FMLA request.

Position Responsibilities/Standards:

General

Attend department, clinic or company meetings as required

Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns

Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow staff members.

Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.

Attend required annual in-service programs.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all company policies and procedures including delegation of authority as outlined in the Physical Therapist Kentucky Administrative Regulations Code: 201 KAR 22:053 and the Ohio Administrative Code 4755-27-03: Delegation.

Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor

Tasks

Aid in the care and safety of patients, performed regularly every hour.

Prepare equipment for patient treatments as requested by the physical therapist; to relieve the physical therapist to perform his or her profession duties. Performed daily.

Performs housekeeping duties of their areas by routine and periodic cleaning; to maintain order and cleanliness throughout the facility. Performed daily.

Assist therapist in selected procedures, according to the therapist’s directions, by checking patient and equipment during treatment for both comfort and safety, to aid in patient care in the department/facility. Performed regularly every hour.

Responsible for bookkeeping procedures and charting assigned area, assuring confidentiality of all records

Under the supervision of the therapist he or she is trained to perform certain physical therapy treatments. This position is one of considerable responsibility.

Performs other duties as requested by opening the facility in the mornings, by ordering and putting away lean linen, by putting supplies in their proper place, by doing other jobs as requested or required. Performed daily and weekly.

Treatment

Must practice physical therapy consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and standards of Practice and the company’s standards of practice.

Must maintain a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the facility.

Must confer with the persons most closely associated with the active management of the patient and to keep them informed of any additional patient needs, treatment modification and/or progress.

Must treat patients of all ages (0-120 years), race, creed, gender and disability without bias or prejudice.

To respect and understand the patient’s right to treatment and right to involvement in treatment decision.

To practice ethical responsibility based on the cultural, ethnic and religious beliefs of the patients served and applicable law.

Supervision

Of their assigned areas to assure their area is secure, orderly and organized at all times.

Physical therapy aides assigned to their areas.

Patients receiving treatment in their assign area

Non-Supervisory

Care of equipment, machines, supplies and facilities

Safety and welfare of patients

Prevention of unnecessary expense, waste, loss of time and damage to equipment.

Order and cleanliness of facility.

Must keep current and adhere to policies and procedures of company.

Education/Experience Required:

One year department/facility experience is preferred.

Entry level is acceptable if individual skills are above average.

Current or pending state licensure or certification required.

Associate degree in physical therapy or graduate from an accredited physical therapist assistant program required.

Must have verification card of CPR certification.

Must be familiar with cleaning agents and methods, physical layout of facility, techniques of handling patients, policies, procedures and regulations; operations of facility equipment; knowledge of physical therapy treatment techniques, general anatomy, physiology, physics, medical science, etc.

Must be able to apply the theory pf PT; have the ability and competency to operate the equipment of the position, perform technical procedures, speak intelligently and in a professional manner after others, supervision and management skills.

Must have skill in technique of handling patients for patient’s and own protection, efficiently assisting patients; operation of facility equipment. Skill in various treatment techniques necessary.

Must be able to instill confidence in patients, doctors and personnel, determine proper procedures and methods and evaluate results. Must make decision on hi or her own, adapt to emergency situation, alert to changes in patient’s condition, alert o all activities of the facility.

Must be willing to work under direction and take instructions and corrections, ability to reason, to remember names, details of instructions, must be alert, adaptable and flexible.

Must have a high degree of accuracy in carrying out prescription, in receiving and translating information and in charting and reporting.

Must have coordination of sight and body movements in various applications of procedures; techniques of assisting and handling patients; ability to handle the tools and machines of the profession.

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push and kneel. Ability to demonstrate exercises properly without limitations. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift 25-50 lbs.
