Overview:

Assesses patients and develops, implements, and evaluates music therapy interventions that address the psychosocial and developmental needs. Works with all ages and developmental levels to provide a variety of music interventions that promote coping, skill development, and self-expression. The music therapist is an active member of the hospice interdisciplinary team. All patient interventions occur in the patient?s home in a 9-county service area in Central Ohio.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday (1st shift)

Location: 255 E Main St

Responsibilities:

Uses music therapeutically with individuals to provide interactions that enhance development, coping, normalization, self-expression, and family bonding.

Identifies and modifies treatment based on comprehensive assessment and re-evaluation, with additional consideration for values and preferences.

Advocates, empowers, and supports appropriate parental learning and involvement in their child’s care through music therapy interventions and contributes to a patient’s legacy through music interventions.

Prioritizes work flow based on care needs, creates timely and compliant documentation, and participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning, and co-treatment when appropriate.

Coordinates, trains, and supervises students during field internship experiences and supports patient and family music focused programming.

Identifies and maintains music resources, promotes awareness of music therapy including creating and providing educational programs, and remains current and educated in the professional field and caters that knowledge to appropriate needs.

Qualifications:

Education Requirement:

Bachelor's degree in music therapy, required.

Master's degree, preferred.

Certifications:

Certification by The Certification Board for Music Therapists (MT-BC) required.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of music relevant to the pediatric population.

Competence in voice, accompanying instruments, and musical skills, required.

Strong knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate practices, patient assessment, and the psychosocial impact of long-term illness on children.

Ability to adapt interventions for the broad range of medical, developmental, and psychosocial needs of the pediatric hospital population.

Commitment to using the latest evidence-based techniques, methods, technology, and programming to meet patient/family needs.

Knowledge of research design and methodology.? Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.? Basic computer skills required.

Experience:

Experience related to program planning, and management, preferred.

Prior experience in a pediatric health care setting, preferred.

Memberships in related professional organizations, preferred.
