Position Summary

The consultant will work directly with the Senior Technical Researcher to create research outputs in support of IREX’s strategic research goals.

Summary of Tasks

1) Manuscript submitted to scholarly journal focused on the use of educational technology to promote student learning in the African context. Key activities include:

Contributing to the literature review for the manuscript;

Development of a data analysis plan in consultation with the Senior Technical Researcher;

Data cleaning;

Creation of a code book;

Data analysis using SPSS to conduct basic descriptive approaches, bivariates, and regression-based approaches;

Creation of descriptive analyses tables;

Conducting basic statistical analyses using SPSS;

Co-writing the results and conclusions; and

Formatting manuscript per journal instructions.

2) Supporting the design and development of a study of locally-led development. Key activities include:

Establishing the parameters of the literature review in consultation with the Senior Technical Researcher;

Conducting the literature review of academic, grey, and other available literature;

Drafting a literature review report for use by IREX in a format and length agreed upon with the Senior Technical Researcher;

Participating in meetings with relevant stakeholders; and

Drafting the design of a study of locally-led development.

3) Literature review and draft of a survey related to perceptions of early grade education in the Middle Eastern context. Key activities include:

Establishing the parameters of the literature review in consultation with the Senior Technical Researcher;

Conducting the literature review of academic, grey, and other available literature;

Drafting a literature review report for use by IREX in a format and length agreed upon with the Senior Technical Researcher; and

Creating a table of potential measures that could be included in a national survey of early grade education in the Middle Eastern context.

4) Other key outputs as agreed upon with the Senior Technical Researcher.

Skills and Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent required.

At least 2 years of prior research experience, namely experience publishing manuscripts in a scholarly journal, conducting data analysis, and conducting literature reviews.

Proficiency in and access to SPSS.

Access to reliable internet connection required.

Proficiency in the Arabic language, specifically reading and writing in Modern Standard Arabic preferred.

Term

This role will be an at-will consultancy. Length of the performance period and weekly hour allocations will be determined with the selected candidate, based on their availability.
