About the team:

South China Morning Post (SCMP) is looking for a skilled and creative Photo Editor to support the production of content for its Specialist Publications department, a lifestyle content division focused on culture, fashion, F&B, travel and more.

Purpose of the position:

As the Photo Editor, you will be responsible for curating and enhancing visual content to create impactful and visually appealing layouts for all titles produced by the Specialist Publications department, including Post Magazine, Style by SCMP, 100 Top Tables and more.

In this role, you will:

Collaborate with the editorial team to understand the vision, themes, and objectives for each title.

Plan and organise shoots in Hong Kong and around Asia.

Manage a full-time, in-house photographer.

Curate and select high quality images that align with each title’s style, target audience, and storytelling goals.

Edit and retouch photographs to enhance their visual impact, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to brand guidelines.

Work closely with photographers and other contributors to ensure their work meets the standard and requirements.

Crop, resize and adjust images as necessary to fit the layout and design of the magazine.

Work closely with the design team to develop visually compelling layouts and ensure a seamless integration of text and imagery.

Manage and organise a library of digital assets

Ensure all photo assets are delivered on time and meet the production deadlines.

Occasionally shoot on location yourself.

Skills and Experience that will lead to success:

Proven experience as a Photo Editor or similar, preferably in a lifestyle magazine or other editorial setting.

Strong proficiency in photo editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and a solid understanding of colour correction, retouching, and image manipulation techniques.

Excellent visual sense and a keen eye for detail, composition, and aesthetics

Strong knowledge of photography trends, styles and techniques

Familiarity with layout and design principles

Ability to collaborate with different teams

Passionate about lifestyle topics and with an understanding of their visual representation

Work location will be at Causeway Bay office
