Our top-notch client has been leading the transportation industry for over three decades and is looking for a Transportation Manager. The Transportation Manager is a key management role and serves one of the most central and important functions to the overall success of the company.

The Transportation Manager is responsible for the management of all the company vehicles and drivers. Also manages relationships with affiliate partners and drivers to ensure additional drivers and vehicles are available to handle peak times. The Transportation Manager oversees all the Station managers and facilities at all of the satellite locations. The Transportation Manager is responsible for setting up new Station locations and for ensure consistent processes and compliance is established and followed at all Station locations.

The role includes defining the processes and executing the delivery of transportation management, including:

o Driver recruitment, hiring, and management,

o Vehicle compliance and safety,

o Risk management, operations efficiency and optimization,

o Communication and collaboration between departments to ensure customer transportation schedules and/or other management priorities.

Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000k salary + performance bonus

Location: Reston, VA

Schedule: Mon – Fri, 9:00AM – 5:00PM (hybrid flex after training)

Transportation Manager Responsibilities:

Driver Management

• Manage the recruit-to-retire process of operational personnel including: Recruitment, Onboarding, Training and Development, Performance Management

• Oversee compliance with driver safety and qualification requirements

• Manage driver schedules and ensure the Operations Control Center (OCC) has the resources necessary to work efficiently

• Monitor driver performance and safety

• Manage driver conflicts and resolutions with customers, dispatchers, and other drivers, related to the performance of their work (e.g., cooperation with job assignments, changes, scheduling, etc.)

• Negotiate driver compensation rates

Vehicle Compliance and Safety

• Oversee compliance with vehicle safety and regulatory requirements (i.e., registrations, safety equipment, and vehicle inspection reports)

• Manage vehicle repairs, maintenance, and inspections including:

o Sourcing vendors

o Scheduling repairs with vendors

o Overseeing vehicle inventory and repairs

o Overseeing vehicle condition (e.g., appearance, signage, odor, tires, suspension, etc.)

o Overseeing and maintaining vehicle cleanliness and experience standards (e.g., trash pickups, washes, and detailing as needed)

• Manage vehicle and company assets including:

o GPS devices

o Fuel cards

o Keys

o Safety / emergency equipment

Risk Management

• Provide onsite or field support for emergency response, intervention, and coordination

• Manage driver and shop-related risks such as accidents, physical lifting, and slips and falls

• Manage vehicle claims if/when accidents occur

• Monitor vehicle fuel consumption, mileage, and usage

Client Engagement

• Provide onsite or field-support for customer experience-related needs and event coordination

• Provide support to meetings related to customer requirements and event planning

Station Management

• Ensuring processes are in place to securing facilities and vehicles

• Ensuring processes to ensure vehicles are cleaned and detailed

• Maintain relationship with repair facility, monitoring when an in-house repair person would be more cost efficient.

Affiliate Management

• Finding and evaluating potential affiliate partners

• Negotiating rates and terms of service with affiliates

• Managing affiliate and in-house resource balance

Transportation Manager Qualifications:

Required Knowledge or Skills

• Familiarity with transportation-related legal issues, government regulations, and safety procedures

• Knowledge of geography, basic mathematics, and analytics

• Skills in communication and collaboration, especially managing up to superiors and down to direct reports.

• Ability to develop productive relationships with customers, employees, and leadership at all levels

• Ability to use appropriate software tools to track fleet inventory, operations, driver performance, route optimization, issue tracking, and customer satisfaction to analyze trends in operations performance and cost.

• Ability to use transportation operations software, personnel management processes, systems, and applications.

• Considerable knowledge of transportation vehicle operating principles and procedures

• Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions relating to transportation operations

• Excellent Customer Service and Communication skills

• Working knowledge of common office software including Microsoft Office Suite including (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint), and collaboration software (e.g., Teams, Zoom, or Webex)

• Self-motivated, but with the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team

Required Experience

• 2 years of experience in the transportation (or related service) industry

• 2 years of experience in team building, management, and leadership

• 2 years of experience using common office software

Desired Experience

• Experience in the Passenger Transportation, Supply Chain, or Logistics industries

• License or certification operating a commercial transportation vehicle (e.g., CDL)

• Service training for serving those with disabilities

• Experience with alcohol and drug testing requirements, especially training for identifying and handling employees with suspicious behavior related to drugs and alcohol

Required Education

• High School Diploma, GED, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Education

• A.S., A.A.S., B.S., or B.A., in Business Administration, Human Resources, Marketing, Communications, Information Systems, or related field

• OSHA Safety Certification

• Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL)

• Certified Supply Chain Professional

• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification
