Researches, identifies, and pursues strategic business opportunities with retailers, manufacturers, financial services firms, restructuring firms, etc. to identify closeout and opportunistic inventory and forge enduring partnerships.

1. Responsible for outreach to retailers, manufacturers, financial services firms, restructuring firms, etc. to cultivate new and maintain existing relationships and identifies closeout and opportunistic inventory.

2. Develops and nurtures relationships to develop and expand the vendor base and position Big Lots as their first call for end-user monetization.

3. Develops and maintains a dynamic target list of business opportunities for cross-functional business partners and provides regular updates and reports to the leadership team.

4. Works closely with internal buying team, to identify industry players for outreach and to identify potential deal flow.

5. Analyzes the current business landscape, identifying gaps, and formulating strategies to capitalize on them.

6. Engages in complex negotiations, ensuring favorable terms and opportunity to scale.

7. Oversees end-to-end business development process from ideation to handoff.

8. Explores emerging trends in the retail and liquidation industries, identifying avenues for integration and expansion.

9. Defines business development processes & works to continuously improve by identifying challenges, remediation strategies, and remediation benefits.

1. Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field or equivalent experience required. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.

2. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience to include at least 3 years of business development experience within financial services or retail sectors required.

3. Experience with off-price retail, liquidations or reverse logistics preferred.

4. Deep understanding of the retail business, with a keen eye for spotting market trends and opportunities.

5. Demonstrated ability to turn potential leads into concrete economic opportunities.

6. Excellent communication, interpersonal and persuasion skills required.

7. Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with an entrepreneurial mindset and a penchant for innovation.

8. Systems capable with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.

9. Ability to travel by air and overnight to domestic destinations required.
