About N Street Village N Street Village is a community of empowerment and recovery for women experiencing homelessness and low-income women in Washington, DC. With comprehensive services addressing both emergency and long-term needs, N Street Village helps women achieve stability and make meaningful gains in their housing, income, employment, mental health, physical health, and addiction recovery. N Street Village also provides affordable rental housing for low and moderate-income individuals and families.

Position Summary

Responsible for the overall kitchen operation, including food preparation, overseeing volunteers in food preparation, meal planning, food ordering and kitchen maintenance. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have proven culinary and management experience. In addition to being an excellent communicator, the ideal candidate will demonstrate outstanding leadership and organizational abilities.

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities

Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of breakfast and lunch for approximately 100 homeless women.

Oversee and manage all aspects of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and maintenance.

Develop and create new menu items and recipes.

Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with health and safety regulations.

Monitor and manage inventory and order supplies as needed.

Train and supervise kitchen staff and volunteers.

Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.

Store food products in compliance with health and safety practices.

Maintain monthly cost reports, including SYSCO orders (or similar) and monthly, quarterly, or yearly expense reconciliations.

Support Bethany’s Day Center and identified housing programs with food and supply orders.

Organize and execute special occasion dinners for the women located at Flagship (i.e. Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.)

Create and implement a culinary program for clients of N Street Village, and the great District of Columbia Communities.

Skills

Good communicator and the ability to build rapport with the women we serve and volunteers.

Proven track record of running food and beverage operations.

Experience with banquets and catering.

Menu and recipe development.

Experience with developing annual budgets and expense reconciliation.

Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Self-starter, team player but able to work independently, flexible.

Ability to work in a stressful and fast-paced environment.

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365

Job Qualifications

Culinary degree or equivalent experience.

DC certification to supervise a commercial kitchen.

Proof of DC Food Handlers certification required prior to start of employment.

Experience working within a budget.

Ability to lift over 75lbs.

Physical stamina to withstand a full shift potentially on their feet.

Experience working in human services and/or with homeless populations.

Hours of Work

Full-time, Monday - Friday. Hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. May need to work evenings, weekends or holidays for organizational events.
