Job Summary:

MAPMG is seeking to hire a Health Promotion Educator to join the Health Promotion and Engagement team. The Health Promotion Educator will support the Delivery System Operations in the achievement of care and service delivery objectives and goals through the offering of health promotion programs and education primarily targeting weight loss/management. This individual will use multiple communication methods to engage, educate, and promote/influence participants in decisions related to achieving and maintaining optimal health status and improving clinical outcomes.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement with the expectation to come into the office on an as-needed basis. This position will be based in Rockville, MD. Applicants must be local or willing to relocate to the Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia area.

Responsibilities:

Provide health education interventions to individuals and groups, primarily focused on weight loss/management, using evidenced-based models, including behavior change and adult learning principles

Inform and link patients to the appropriate health education resources and/or help patients navigate to

appropriate clinical resources

Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality of data collected through health education and training

activities

Provide feedback to health education team on content and class experiences in order to improve programs

Outreach to patients regarding programs that are available to support health promotion

Document any required notes (including outreach) in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system

Practice and promote innovative practice within ethical and legal guidelines using established policies and procedures

Demonstrate commitment to the organization’s mission, vision, and values and serve as a role model for Kaiser Permanente brand

Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality of data collected through health education and coaching activities

Participate in team and staff meetings and continuing education as requested

Ability to work effectively in a complex multi-entity environment

Maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive personal data/information

Maintain health education schedule

Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in health education, health promotion, public health, psychology or another relevant field, required

Must be able to obtain the Certified Health Education Specialist credentials within one year of hire

A minimum of three (3) years’ experience with leading classes, motivational interviewing /healthy lifestyle behavior change

Ability to travel to medical centers throughout the DC metropolitan area (Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland)

Ability to work afterhours and weekends as needed

Experience with leading longitudinal programs such as Diabetes Prevention Programs are preferred

Demonstrated knowledge of: health education, health promotion, adult learning theory and methodologies, motivational interviewing, health behavior change, and social determinants of health

Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity; understand the needs of a diverse population

Excellent independent judgment and decision-making skills, consistently demonstrating tact and diplomacy

Superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication and customer service skills including the ability to motivate others

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills required

Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills

Effective time management skills; ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands; responsive to requests, and punctual

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a variety of levels of an organization, both independently and as part of a team, with enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity

Ability to speak Spanish is desirable
