Description:

Infotek Consulting is searching fro a Java Production Support Analyst - this is a hybrid contract assignment based in Toronto

Description:

This group is developing an application that is soon to be released – running on legacy tech as this is a quant team. Application needs to be deployed and they need a resource to managed both the server environment and assist with the application build and release into the live environment.

This is not really a developer – this is a Unix Administrator/Application or Production Support Analyst - they will setup, deploy, configure and administer the Unix environment; requisition VMs (ironic as the on-prem environments were migrated to cloud, so they are running Unix servers in virtual machines in the cloud) and will also be responsible for the application build/release and deployment into production.

Java is requested as once the initial deployment is complete, there won’t be much work left to do – someone still needs to administer the servers and middleware and messaging systems, but they don’t expect that it will be more than a few hours per week. Seeing as they need to keep this person around for the administrative tasks; they are hoping that the candidate might have some Java development skills, to assist with production and application support and tackle the large backlog of defects

Must Have:

Unix Server Administration Skills – must be comfortable configuring servers, virtual machines, working “in the shell” – that is working in command line, needs to be very proficient with shell scripts, bash commands (think of the old fashioned “stereotypical” Software Engineer who has a an all-black screen with green text – that is called working in “in the shell”, as most servers do not have a Graphical User Interface (GUI) like a desktop, instead commands are typed/entered to configure, run programs etc….

Must have some familiarity with MQ Middleware messaging technology – they aren’t expected to do any administration; but they need to know how it works, how the messaging protocols work etc… (Note IBM MQ Message Broker is the current name of the middleware TD is using, but as it is quite old, it is often referred to as “WebSphere” or “WebSphere MQ”

Must have some level of Java development/programming skills

Nice to Have:

Banking/FI experience

Great Java experience (more than just basic)

IBM/WebSphere MQ Message Broker Administration experience
